FTC Rules All Pornographic 'Spam' Must Be Labeled
FTC Rules All Pornographic 'Spam' Must Be Labeled
'SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT:' Labels Required Starting May 19

WASHINGTON (April 13) - Pornographic ''spam'' e-mail will have to contain a warning on the subject line so Internet users can easily filter it out, the Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday.

Starting May 19, sexually explicit e-mail will have to bear a label reading ''SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT:'' and the messages themselves will not be allowed to contain graphic material, the FTC said.

Outrage over unsolicited pornography and other forms of junk e-mail spurred Congress to pass the first nationwide anti-spam law last year, which required the FTC to develop labels for smut.

Which I think is a good idea... but lets label all spam for what it is.
"Time wasting offer that will cost you more than we say"
"Effort to get your internet password"
"Porn that you may be intersted in"
"Porn no one is interested in"
"Offer of free money, just send me money"

2. Will these titles be...
'SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT:' INCREASE YOUR MANHOOD TODAY

or simply

'SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT:' with the details within?

doesn't really do much to allow the title line to remain by simply adding "SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT" in my opinion...

3. despite the implicit limitation of free speech...
...I am damned tired of receiving 50 percent of my daily e-mail as porn spam or penis enhancement offers. I'm NOT a prude, and in the latter example I am, well, proud of my own accomplishments-- but it has become damed tedious wading through that jis every day. Now if we could somehow add the offshore pharmacy ads....
