Jesus was a liberal murdered by Roman conservatives, 'nuff said
Whoever wrote the new testament almost had a proper grasp on how people should behave. As a purported man of peace, Jesus is cool.

Unfortunately it's all futile when the fiction writer shows that anyone with progressive beliefs should be nailed to 2x4's and hung outside a Home Depot during their seasonal lumber sale... :eyes: Add the nail to the coffin when all sorts of "Christians" do all sorts of un-Christian things in the name of God... That is why I can't believe in Christianity or any other organized religion. People warp religion for their own personal gain, especially the greedy when greed is supposed to be one of the worst sins! And it stinks.

4. Thanks! I'll admit
I did have to put a tiny bit of spin on it. I don't know if those Romans in question were conservative, but I bet my bottom Lira that they are...

5. It wasnt the romans that were the conservative
It was the priesthood that were the conservatives and wanted him dead.

The romans were more like the police that killed him

6. you're not far off
the leaders of a empire occupying a distant land and plundering it for its resources are seldom if ever anything but 'conservative' or RW or some similar form of evil.

and it's not surprising the romans played the various local religious factions against one another to put down what they percieved as a growing rebel movement and achieve their goals at a low cost.

7. No, no, no
you have it ALL wrong! I've been told by a pious, Republican, very Christian individual that Jesus was killed by the Jews AND that he wrote the Bible -- in English. (No, I'm not kidding. Someone actually told me this.) This, my friends, is your typical Bush* Republican. Scary, ain't it?

8. I agree that Jesus was liberal in many ways...
I don't know if he was a real person, or a group of people who shared these ideals, but his tale has inspired me since my youth, and I'm somewhere an agnostic/borderline atheist. I don't meet too many avowed 'Jesus' lovers who actually follow his teachings. They seem to be more into emulating the Old-Testament bully god, who more often than not, acts like a 3 yr. old having a major tantrum.

There's something in the human psyche that knows that the way of love, compassion and selflessness is the right way to live. Rush Limbaugh has so many listeners because he is able to make people feel justified in chosing to be greedy, self-serving and bigotted. It's simply easier and less painful to behave like a beast, bi-passing empathy and in-depth soul-searching.

The 'Jesus' archetype keeps showing up in the writings of human history. We see these same qualities in the superheros of comic book lore and novels as well. The human race wants someone like them, but with super human powers, to come along and save us from ourselves. In reality, I think 'Jesus' or 'Superman' is us, after we've evolved. I think it is a seed in our subconscious, yet to grow and blossom. I'm truly convinced that we are the only ones who can save ourselves, but in order to do that, we will have to choose to become something more than barely conscious beasts.

9. LOL, your parallel of the Old Testament God to a 3 year old!
And you're right on all your points.

I can't wait until humanity evolves; the sooner the better as the world's gone quite out of hand.

10. SOME people warp everything for their own personal gain.

SOME people claim to be Democrats but support policies that run counter to Democratic, and democratic, principles.

It's not Christian theology that's to blame for the bad behavior of those "Christians" who don't follow Christian moral principles, anymore than traditional Democratic principles are to blame for the behavior of "Democrats" who don't follow them.

There are no "perfect" Democrats. Look at the complaints made here at DU about each of the candidates for the 2004 presidential nomination. Chances are that you won't find a single candidate who holds to every principle you consider essential for a Democrat. And, if you did find such a paragon, other Democrats would not agree with you.

Part of the problem is with the candidates, who are imperfect, and part of it is with us, who have differing interpretations of what a Democrat should be.

The same thing is true for Christians, none are "perfect" and we all have differing interpretations of what a Christian should be.

Do we give up on politics because Democrats are flawed human beings? Clearly, if we are posting here, we see a need for political organizations to advance the principles we value.

You have evidently given up on Christianity but many of us see a need for it which is not disproven by the flaws of human beings who are part of our churches. And the need for Christianity is very much about the principles it advances.

11. Evangelical atheists keep posting - interesting - but this is about Dems
I glad to see that you have faith in your religion, your set of beliefs - indeed in your belief that all other beliefs cause evil

It is good to have faith.

But what do you do in the world of removing Bush as President - volunteer for anything, donate? Which policy of which candidate do you really like?
