where is the cheapest place to get boxes for packing?

i need to pack up my stuff since i will be moving soon. i bought some small boxes at the u-haul store but i was wondering if anyone knows of a place to buy them real cheap.

:shrug: I always got empty boxes from grocery stores or dumpsters...

When I moved from FL last fall, I had about 10 liquor boxes filled with stuff that I was going to FedEx and they said no because it's illegal to ship liquor. I told them that there was no liquor in the boxes and they said that there was no way for them to know that. Not only was this an inconvenience, but it kinda makes you wonder about how they screen packages.

6. When I moved

I used old textbook boxes. A local elementary school let me have them. They are very strong (hold books, obviously) and a reasonable size.

...the reason i considered buying boxes is because i don't seem to see good ones at the grocery store anymore like in the old days. i'll check again, though, and i'll check walmart as well. the textbook box idea is great because i have so many books to pack.

i have no idea how i'm going to get my stuff down to central america.

i'm gonna be selling the majority of what i own. anybody wanna buy the contents of my house?

How much stuff, what's your budget, and where are you going from/to?

Have you looked into the cost of a shipping container/semi-truck trailer?
I had to move some belongings to Hawaii once, and got the stuff into fit into a crate that I made. I dropped it off at a cargo terminal on the southside of Chicago, and picked it up a couple weeks later in Hilo. It was a while ago, and I honestly don't remember what it cost me...
BUT-
My original idea had been to drive to L.A. with all my crap packed in my car, and then ship that to the Big Island(It was a white '69 Buick LeSabre Convertible...god, I loved that car). The fly in the ointment came when I found out that in shipping a car, it has to be totally empty- even the gas tank and the trunk- at least that's what the shipping company told me. Luckily I checked into it before just driving on out to the west coast.

11. i want to ship my car that way also.....

....actually, i'm hoping to sell my car and get a pickup truck. i was planning on filling the bed of the truck with a crateload of stuff as well. i need to look into it to see if i'll have the problems you mentioned. i had heard you could fill your car with stuff on those ships, but now i need to research it.

8. Liquor store.

They generally have lots of boxes- the boxes are strong, usually have handles built in, and they are a good size to load things in, in that a full box(even books) usually isn't too heavy for one person to carry.

9. Office-supply stores and computer stores

often have great boxes, clean and strong.

Supermarkets can have some good ones, but at a lot of them you have to race them to ensure you get the boxes before they're smashed and bundled. Nice employees might save some for you.
