What's that sound that squirrels make called?

but it translates loosely to "That damn cat is out in the yard again." or "Who took my nuts".

4. chattering?

I dunno but when my dogs chase them up a tree and the squirrels make that noise, the dogs prance around the yard like they think they're fierce huntresses or something. :shrug:

7. "Chittering" is what my family calls it

They like to sit in the maple out front and tease the cat that way. They're smart little buggers, too -- the cat has brought in samples of every things else that lives around here, including the occasional bat, but never once a squirrel.

Decades of squirrels in my yard. There are a variety of sounds. Chittering is soft. There is a loud chattering when they are excited or mad that takes a deep squirrel breath and cycles sniiiiiiiiick sniiiiiiick sniiiiiick sniiiick sniiick sniiiick sniiik sniiick sniick sniick. There is the clattering of their nails running around the trees chasing each other.

They are lots of fun to watch, and they find our household just as interesting sometimes.

17. We always called it chittering too.

I raised a baby squirrel once. Lots of fun. He hung around for a while after we released him and then he disappeared into the squirrel world.

"Thunk" as they bounce of one's tires and the cars body before being ground into the pavement while playing in the road. Stupid squirrels.
