Invitation to a Sunday drive through the country -- scenic photos inside
Need a break from the drama in the world and on DU? Why not join me for a virtual tour along a country road in Missouri?

The sun is shining and radiates its warmth through your body. Crickets and birds are serenading you as their glorious songs are carried by the light breeze that tickles your skin. The air smells so fresh, tinged with the musky smell of the earth. Take a deep breath and just relax...

I was in Harper's Ferry WV yesterday and that is a beautiful place as well, where the Shenandoah river cuts through the Blue Ridge mountains. The only thing about Harper's Ferry is that when you go there, so much of the history of the area involves the Civil War that there's a sadness to the beauty of it.

4. thanks,
I needed that. Sitting here longing for the Blue Ridge, Smokies but can't go til Oct. Fla. sucks and getting worse every day. But can't leave kids and grandaughter. Otherwise I'd be out of here.

7. Florida has some nice areas
Why not take a drive through Lakeland or Ocala? I really like that central north area of Florida, I think it's Hillboro County or something like that.

Gulf Coast is really more relaxed too.

Here in D.C. you have to take trips to areas to enjoy the country but a weekend getaway is good for the soul. I'm sure you could do the same from wherever you are.

5. My wife and I took a two hour slow drive
Through the country just late yesterday into the sunset. We drove a State designated "Rustic Road" and other rural one-lane roads seeing pretty old homes (ugly big boxes too), potato fields, pine-covered hillocks and lakes. The smell of summer heat on fallen pine needles perfumed certain stretches. Kingbirds, Bluebirds, sandhill Cranes, deer, turkeys populated our way. We rarely broke 50/mph and had only one disturbance when a loud, out-of-tune Harley Davison blew by. The biker was totally out of place.

6. Isn't that so relaxing?
I find I need to do things like that every now and then to maintain my sanity.

8. I love the country
I love it so much, I opted to live out in the sticks. There is no way I could handle living in a large city or suburbia. (I tried both)
One lane country road with the nearest neighbor 1/2 mile away. The Turkey will hang out in the yard along with the deer and rabbits. The farmer down the road has a collection of birds that would make some zoo's envious and they congregate by the road, it really adds the the scenery.
If I wanted to, I could probably do some work up by the road naked as a jaybird and not worry about it. The average car count per day is in the single digits. No door to door salespeople, no kids selling things for scouts or school, no annoying noises coming from the neighbors. We had four murders in the entire county last year and that is four more than the average. It was a drug deal gone bad and all suspects were caught.
Country living is different, but in a good kind of way.

10. You're welcome!
I think I have a couple of sunset pics that I'll dig up later. I love having a digital camera because you can immediately see if you got the shot or not so that lets you retake it until you get just what you want.
