Why torture when there are drugs like this?
I had my colonoscopy on Friday (they didn't find anything that wasn't normal). They gave me pain killers and a drug that made me cooperative but unable to remember anything that happened. When I was coming to rememberable consciousness, I was evidently telling the nurse about smoking pot because she said that although health care providers should know that, I shouldn't tell everyone. Before that, I supposedly had a conservation with the doctor as well. When I got home, I just wanted to sleep more. It makes me wonder about governments torturing POWs and spies. Why not just give the person with valuable information drugged like this? I don't know how a person could be trained not to give out valuable information when under the influence of drugs like this. I think that I would have said anything and not remembered any of this. This would be more humane. I suppose that it is against the Geneva Convention but that doesn't stop torture so why should it stop this method.

3. Because torturing people is more fun
for the kind of people who do that sort of work.

Both "truth" drugs and torture suffer from unreliability -- people will tell the questioner what they think the questioner want to hear, with accuracy only coincidental.

I expect the method is used, but not talked about so much, because it doesn't strike fear into the hearts of the opposition the way that stories of torture do.

4. I've been present for a few
colonoscopies where some pretty interesting details were revealed under the influence of the demerol/versed cocktail. The hand-shooing "no honey, not tonight" is my all-time favorite.
