Anyone else here love Allison Janney?
She is the actress that plays CJ Cregg in The West Wing. She struggled to keep working and finally made her breakthrough aged 39.

I have seen her in American Beauty, The Hours, Drop Dead Gorgous and
Big Night etc, she is always amazing she can do anything as an actress brilliantly.

Allison Janney is also very cool, she is funny, claims she knows nothing about politics but is liberial in her lifestyle and movie choses. Every film she has done has upset the Christian film critics, except Find Nemo (she is Peaches.) And she seems to adore Martin Sheen.

1. Yes, she's a wonderful actress
I adore her in Drop Dead Gorgeous. In fact, I adore that whole movie.

4. I totally agree.
She is a rareity it Hollywood, beautiful inside and out. She has kept her feet on the ground despite her success and never fails to make the best dressed list at award ceremonys.
And so talented in both drama and comedy. I discovered her on The West Wing but I already loved Drop Dead Gorgoeous and it took me awhile to recognise her. Add her performance in Amercian Beauty and her versatility is stunning.
Her mentors in life are Paul Newman and Joanna Woodward which most likely helped her to develop her liberialism.

I forgot her appearance in Primary Colors as the librarian in the beging, The Ice Storm as the host of a key party and in Object of her Affection where she stills the film from Jennifer Aniston.
I gather that How To Deal has been very controversial too in the US,
totally opposite to the drive for good moral values. (Pot smoking, teen pregnancy, divorce etc.)

3. Also "Private Parts"
She was in Howard Stern's movie, playing a radio station executive in Washington, D.C., who tried to reign in Stern. Another A+ performance.

10. Exactly why she knocks my out with her talent.
You have to consciously look for her, to recognise her.
Look at Barbara Fitts the catatonic wife, Loretta the trailer trash, tart with a heart and CJ Cregg and then remember the same woman plays all three of these very different women.
That is why she is amazing she has had an amazing year, I am nervous about The West Wing this year. Never mind the change in writer, it is an popular programme about a Liberial Democratic White House and it will be an election year. Karl Rove will not want this around.

Here performances are listed here:

By the way, I had no idea that she was born in Dayton, Ohio. Martin Sheen (born Ramon Estevez) is also from Dayton. I used to read about him a lot in the Dayton Daily News when he was building his acting career.

7. So is Rob Lowe. Dayton, OH has been good to "The West Wing".
Allison Janney is incredible. I read somewhere that some producer took one look at her and said she would only be able to play aliens and lesbians. In what known universe?! She's gorgeous!

12. I saw her once
on the Today show, she said something about directors always told her she wasn't pretty enough for *Leading Lady* type rolls. AS IF!! She is so totally *real* looking in a town full of plastic. I think she's lovely. She also said she lost countless parts to Christine Lahti, who I also like, but I think Allison Janney has more talent in an eyelash than she has in her whole body. And CJ is my hero!! :)

14. I love how nobody seems to mind ...

... that she's taller than many of her male colleagues on the show. It's cool when CJ is walking alongside President Bartlet. I can't imagine George W. hiring a female press secretary who is taller and fitter-looking than he is (rumor has it that he didn't want Tom Ridge as VP because Ridge would make him look small and ineffectual).

I used to room with a woman who is almost Allison Janney's height ... when she described the type of comments she gets, and missing out on dates or even jobs because she was "too tall", I was appalled. Since then I have learned that "women of stature" can face as much prejudice as shorter guys do (as a short woman, I am merely thought to be "cute" and it doesn't have that much of a bearing on my work). Smart, funny performers like Allison Janney and Kristen Johnston are not just talented -- they have had to fight for what they've got. As Jen said earlier, "feet on the ground".
