Family dinner blowup

Well, my partner's family arrived for the weekend...everything was going ok until dinner last night when my partner's brother started "pontificating" on the virtues of AWOL and the Repugs..

Briefly he credited repugs with the economic boom in the 90's and blamed Clinton for the economic situation we are in now...

well, after several minutes of listening to this - I lost it and went on the attack like a rabid pitbull - pointed out that IF the repugs were to be credited with boom because they had control of congress in the 90's and that Clinton had nothing to do with the boom, then how can Clinton be blamed when we now have a totally repug dominated goverment? 3 million jobs lost under AWOL, surpassing HOOVER. Record deficits that will continue to rise. Afghanistan is getting ready to implode. Iraq reconstruction is going to cost billions and trillions of dollars. Meanwhile North Korea is building nukes. Hostilities are "over" in Iraq according to "bring 'em on-George" but our military are sitting ducks, getting killed.

Well, you get the idea... Then he asked where I get my news from. I first asked him where he gets his news - :eyes: FAUX news....

I started listing the various papers, tv news, and internet sites that I read or watch EVERYDAY.

My partner intervened, and said to her brother "...if you are going to argue politics with Dory, you better know what you are talking about..."

the subject was changed after that to something less controversial...

5. My favorite thing about "debating" a rightwinger

has to be the way they take antecdotal incidents they got in a chain email or unsubstantiated lies they heard on limbaugh and then spout them as irrefutable facts. Then when you say something that is true, you have to show them four sources and they still don't believe you.

I remembered i talked to this freeper who said it was totally ok that the serbs killed muslims in bosnia because there had been a yugoslavian muslim regiment that fought for Germany in ww2, i asked his source and it was from the most horrid "christian" site ive ever seen

Both the SS and the Wehrmacht had muslim Regiments recruited in southeastern Europe. The SS alone had more than 20000 muslim soldiers, tricked by promises of great wealth and power.

Some of those remain organized until today, for example the Albanian SS-division "Skanderberg" formed the UCK.

The Bosnian division was named "Handschar".

11. Before chimp* started his oil war

I wore a no war button everywhere I went, my wife had to change her bank account because someone altered a stolen check, anyway the kid at the bank sees my no war button, and starts in with the right wing crap about al quada and mass destruction. I couldn't help myself and started disputing and refuting his every argument. Last weekend we happened past the branch which is in a store, I saw the youngster and just had to throw a told you so, the kid just looked down, he knew now he'd been scammed.

the benefit of the doubt...many are clueless about politics and many were certainly clueless about Dimson.

No longer. Anyone who tries to assert what a great leader Bush is in my presence, finds this dude not being sympathetic to the cause. Most are in denial, many know they are wrong, but can't admit that their keen judgement was trashed....a sin of pride, as it were.

Too fricken' bad....positions must be challenged on support of this administration. I'm wearing my DU "T" shirt a lot these days and I have no problem looking people in the eyes and saying, "I'm a liberal Democrat...you?". If they have a problem with that, best to discuss and educate...a public service, I think.

17. I feel for you

I just had my mom and her friend visiting. Well, they were doing me a favor and house/dog sitting while I was away on a business trip. Both are repukes. Her friend even works for the Repuke party in San Diego. They know my views so we make a point to not talk politics and I purposely left the news off so there would be no comments from either side. One evening, before I left, I came home and they were watching Faux News. Faux News on my fucking TV!!! My mom's friend goes - oh, you can change the channel. Gee, thanks.

I got back at 'em though. I left my "Bushisms" book lying around. I haven't been able to find it since I got back from my trip. Perhaps they burned it - lol. The truth hurts and maybe it was too much for them to take :-) .
