Who in their right mind would pay $35 for a cheap cotton banner that reads whiskey bent and hell bound? Flaming outrageous. It is kind of funny, because 10 years ago my husband and I went to a concert and it was all pickup trucks, confederate flags and rebel yells in the parking lot. This time, a lot of mini-vans...I am sure Hank was pleased. I got to see him get out of his car. Whooopee! Kid Rock showed up (this being Detroit and all) and sang family tradition to close out the show. It is amazing how much tamer his show is now. Was only a little over an hour before I was allowed to go back home to my real life. So no search party needed. :-)

1. I saw him in 1983...

actually, it was a good show. That was when he was a rebel and not so damned politically offensive.

He did Kawliga with two huge drumsticks and a big drum...it was cool.

I have nothing for him these days, though. And WTF was Kid Rock trying to squeeze in on the action? Talk about an untalented oaf!

here I married a man who likes him. Sheesh... The last show we went to in 93, he actually played some classical music. He is very talented with musical instruments, I just can't stand him and his chauvanistic lyrics.

When I saw him in 83, he was so damned drunk he couldn't even stand up. Before he came out on stage, the roadies brought out two stools, one for him, and one for his fifth of Jack Black. He drank the whole bottle during the concert and couldn't even stand up at the end.

I'm with ya, Mrs. Grumpy. I wouldn't go to his concert now, but in 1983, I was a full-of-shit 18 year old who loved his controversial image. That has all changed now, of course. :-)

3. bocephus

my band opened a show for him 3 years ago at the montgomery jubilee
they built a ramp from his bus to the stage so he didn't have to walk far.the stage crew told me this was because he was too drunk to walk far.

I believe it. He has had to cancel concerts in the past because of getting too drunk to perform.

Living off his Daddy's talent--Jr. is in no way as talented as Hank. Nor are any of the others in the gaggle who claim to be Hank's offspring.

i really liked him back in the late 70s

the crowd there was weird like half hippies and the other half looked like redneck marti gras lots of stars and bars and mullets.

8. Hank III - now, there's an interesting one

I understands he alternates between heavy metal and alt-country, and that people who go to his show have no idea what to expect.

On the way up to Maine this year I bought a truckstop cassette called "Three Hanks" - Senior (on a couple of 'ghoul tracks'), Junior and III showcasing a buncha different songs. It burned up a few miles, but the little one didn;t like it much.

9. Yes! Hank III is worth seeing, from everything I've heard.

Heard a great interview with him on NPR, then copped some MP3's and really enjoyed them.

Hank Sr. was a god, as far as music goes.

Hank Jr. should shut the hell up and go away...

10. My husband went to St. Andrew's Hall to see Hank III...

Picture this...my husband is a country music boy all the way. Hank Sr/Jr., Waylon, Willie, Johnny, Merle,Vern (you get the point).

Anyway, he sits down at a table Hank comes on and says, "the first set is my grandpa, the second set is my dad and the third set is me. If you like country music and don't have an open mind, you'll wanna leave after the second set."

My husband stayed through two speed metal songs and then couldn't take it any more. I am proud he managed to last that long.

Personally, I think it's a shame he can't get his life in order and get off the drugs and break the "family tradition"

12. I'm of the opinion that the talent gene skipped Hank Jr. and went straight

to Hank III. I've never liked Hank Jr's music, and his jingoistic bullshit is even worse. Hank III, on the other hand, I like quite a bit, and not just because he sounds a lot like his grandfather.

11. I am a vocalist and I have to say that

Hank Williams, Jr. has the worst voice I've ever heard in a "professional" setting. Barf. Gag. Once, the movie theater was playing one of his atrocities before the show and I almost had to get up and leave.

In a more stable time I'd be able to overlook his politics and listen to his music. Except he isn't musical. He sucks.

I heard Jett Willams on TV a couple of times when the controversy over performance of Hank Sr's copyrighted materials was big news. I liked her singing much better.

Hank III has his granddaddy's soul, though. I'm keeping my eye on him.
