Poll question: Would you move cross-country for someone?

With the internet allowing people from all over to get to know each other, develop relationships, etc., is it still 'weird' to relocate for someone you fall for?

I am very smitten with a certain DU'er who's actually in my house right now and I'm dreading her having to go back to CT. The good thing is that our first meeting is more than just a wild weekend, but will be some time to get to know each other well, including quirks and daily routines. She's smart, sexy, and makes me laugh. We share a common ideology and very similar views on parenthood (we both have kids) and how to run a household (although she's convinced I need someone to take care of me.. lol! What can I say, I'm still just a guy!)

I'm planning on moving once I find a job, etc., and shooting for after the holidays. My question is... would anyone of y'all do it?

But, I admit it would be tough giving up my job (where I have 11 years in), my family and friends. But, I'm thinking about moving to another state WITHOUT someone else being involved, so for sure I'd move for someone I was truly in love with.

9. That is the tough part.

I've been at my job for almost 7 years and in AZ for 19 years now. I've been thinking about leaving the state for a while (I hate this heat!) and going somewhere with seasons again.

My folks would take it hard as then all of their kids would live out of state, but they always say they want us to be happy.

8. It's likely that I'll be moving to NC from FL.

Since Steph (A DU'er) and I got married ten days ago it's probably a given.

Sure it's not "Cross Country" but I still have to give up a very cool job, she could move down here but both of our families are in NC now so I'm the one that'll end up moving.

Ultimately the answer to your question is YES!!!

19. Having done it myself, I voted yes . . BUT . . .

Moved over 3,000 miles (from CA to Mass). It didn't work out for me. In fact, it was quite disastrous (considering she waited until after I'd quit my job, sold all my furniture, given up my apartment, spent thousands on preparations and obtaining a new apartment, and packed everything in the car to move before she told me she had changed her mind about the whole relationship).

Would I do it again? Probably, but I'd be a hell of a lot more careful. Took me a long time to recover from that one (if you ever fully recover from such a thing).

It sucks that it went south on you, but I'm also glad to see it didn't completely turn you off from doing it again, which it could have.

but to a beautiful rural or small town setting in New England, upstate New York, or the West/Southwest, sure. True love does not conquer all, IMO-- couldn't hack it in North Dakota for anyone.

30. it would be tough

leaving the chicago area but for that one shot i would and may have to. in the final throes of a dying marriage (dead actually except on paper) and have rediscovered my hs flame on line. no hanky-panky but we are best friends ever and if there is such a thing as a soulmate it is she for me. she actually is only about two hours away but her daughter lives in phoenix and she wants to follow someday. for a once in a lifetime shot at a life with a soulmate, it's really a no-brainer.
