I'm a PhD, ask me anything...
I don't know much about too much but I'm always willing to give my opinion in the most irritatingly pompous way possible! So, ask me anything....the doctor is *in*!

1. How long did it take you to get your PhD?
I am asking because that is something I would like to pursue (I'm a sophomore in college, BTE).

Also, what do you have your PhD in?

10. Yes, as a matter of fact, I do
I particular like to insist that my younger siblings call me Doctor!
They won't play but that doesn't stop me from trying! My little six year old niece will but that obviously is a ploy to keep the Xmas gifts coming by sucking up...

11. he's dead
so, at the moment, I don't think he is doing anything at all...I could be wrong but since my field isn't theology I'm only guessing.

15. What's the exact value of pi?
I've been wondering. I usually just round it off, but I'd really like to be accurate.

20. Pies cost about 4.95 at the market near me
the *value* of the pies they sell varies. THe strawberry-rhubarb is worth about -.02 in my opinion so its *value* is much lower than its *cost*

That is what you meant right?
or did you mean 3.41......or whatever that number I learned in high school was?

19. "That would be DOCTOR Asshole to you!"
I actually got to say that once---which is every PhD's dream.
I know someone who got to deliver the "That would be Dr. Sweetheart to you!" so its not just an urban myth.

17. yes -- is it still considered a "PhD" ...
... if one didn't actually take any philosophy courses?

(just kidding)

Does your school have a language requirement? One astronomer I know (U of Arizona, 1980) listed "Fortran" as his mandatory second language. They gave him the degree.

18. yep, I do have two foreign languages
latin (thank you high school and undergrad language requirements!)
and
Spanish (which I did largely from my knowledge of Latin and cramming vocab for a week!)

Don't ask me to communicate (well) in either language!\\

Many programs (Ivy and non Ivy) allow one "language" to be a research method (Fortran, Cobol---well years ago, statistics, etc) mainly a scam and everyone knows it but hey, what the hell.
