Stop in, say hello, and tell us WHY YOU DONATED to DU....
I donated because I feel this forum is filled with some really great minds that foster thought and creativity.

I can come here first for the latest news, and get a hundred points of view on any subject.

I come here because my opinions aren't ridiculed and insulted. Well, at least not since you all figured out I'm RIGHT every time (we won't go into the whole jessica lynch thing, and why AREN'T you paying attention to the Rumsfeld Commission Report of 1998!).

This is a great forum, and critically needed. Collectively, we sure do good work folks. I appreciate the founders and participants.

THANKS! Give LOTS Of money!

12. BEEN there, done that, done rode that horse. You're hardly a failure,
just getting along the road as best you can.

It's not the destination, but the journey. I give NOW because I can. There were many, many years where I wasn't able to be generous when I wanted to be.

Eh, so you'll make up for lost time when things get better. It all works out!

9. I donated because DU is a great start
DU can grow into a great resource for progressives in the US. 30,000 people is a decent beginning and over time DU can become a great resource for organizing, fund-raising, platform building and can become a terrific resource for campaign managers looking for relevant news on the issues, the feeling of constituents on the issues, and let's face it, we are great at digging up dirt on republican candidates. Nothing like having a research staff of 30,000 people! Picture this, Your candidate of choice sitting at a meeting asking his campaign people to find out about the various things an opponent has said in the past about a key issue for use in an upcoming debate. Staff goes to DU and says "We need to know everything opponent has said or how he/she voted on this issue in public" DU has 30,000 internet savvy people go to work to find the goods. Beautiful! DU can also serve as a steeping stone for potential candidates and for budding activists looking to move into the political arena. Powerful stuff and worthy of support.

11. This is a good website
and while some people in here are a little too far out for me, it seems that people in here at least have intelligent discussions, even when there are disagreements. First time donor, modest amount and worth it to me.

13. Just had some gambling websites
Paypal me some money for putting links up on a website I run (why they wanted links on that particular site, I'll never know), and I figured it was sitting there in easily transferable mode, and it was about time to donate to DU.

Search function, except I still can't seem to use it which is frustrating. I already got my confirmation email that they recieved the donation but as of around seven hours later I can't use it. I'm sure it will be rectified in the end. My desire to keep up with old posts (and my newly acquired means to donate) resulted in my donation.

*on edit* No star yet either...

25. I donated because..
Everything cost money. Somebody has to pay for the server, data lines ect.

Our country is in deep trouble and I think a place is needed to discuss and address the best way to eliminate the core problems.

I see the core problems as: unrestrained corporations (both here and international), Bush* and his cronies, corruption in Congress and Pat Robertson the neo cons.

Communication is the key to co-operation and winning.

I feel safe here, although usually invisible, and as a result of Will Pitt's attention grabbing contributions. The minds here are boggling.....in a good way, the points of view, varied, and while I have seen disrespect at times, for the most part, DU is a brother/sisterhood of good souls that really care about our country and it's uncertain future. Here I can express my thoughts, views, beliefs without being called a traitor, unpatriotic, or delusional (although the latter is questionable :silly: ) In other words.....DU ROCKS! So many of us would perish without it! :bounce:

ON EDIT: Do not let the low postings fool you.....I have been "here" since summer '01......I found DU the June that I broke my ankle.....I had to have SOME kind of diversion since I couldn't go fishin'! jenn

28. Because I only contribute
to causes I think are worthwhile. We gather here with a common bond -because we want change, we want this country to be a better place. We are able to speak our minds, sometimes against each other, but if need be I have no doubt our collective voice can be powerful.

30. Because I donate during EVERY quarterly fund raising drive
I'd be lost without DU. My wife, who never posts nor reads DU says, "It is a wonderful charitable organization."

She knows I'd be going insane if I didn't have this outlet.

I used to figure, well, I donate my writing to DU, so I'm doing my bit. But somehow this time I figured, well, really, how much is my writing worth, maybe they'd rather have cash.

C ya,
