2. Mom almost had a stroke.
Not because of anger, she was just totally discombobulated by the surprising news.

Honeymooning?

Not until February.

4. oh, and as a newlywed, my advice to you:
NO FUCKING IN NOVERMBER OR DECEMBER!!!

Well, unless you have loads of birth control. August/September birthdays are a real PITA when it comes time for kindergarten. Before we moved to TX, my child missed the cutoff so she would have been 6 when starting K. Now, her birthday IS the cutoff, so she'll be the youngest in her grade. Either way, it's a sucky situation.

So, take my advice and ya'll will have one less worry. ;)

9. My mom was GREAT!
Surprised as hell but she composed herself after a few minutes or so.

I didn't do it to piss anyone off, we just decided to pull the trigger.

13. Nah. One of the reasons we skipped a big wedding was to avoid gifts.
If anyone wants to give?

Contribute to a good cause.

Like the "Blue Eyeliner and Glitter Blush for Groupies" fund!

10. I did the same thing, way back when.
Didn't have any money and didn't have any desire to have a big wedding. So me and the SO bought a couple of bottles of cheap champagne, found a JOP, and "did it". The weekend was great, but I can remember thinking how I was going to break the news to my Mom.

She told me her tears were ones of joy....I'll believe her.

Anyway, almost 25 years together and still going strong.

17. Why did you do that?
Edited on Mon Aug-18-03 06:44 PM by Mika
I hope you don't mind my asking.

Why did you get married like that? Do you have a serious beef with your parents?

I just seems weird to deny your parents the chance to celebrate such a special occasion for them.

18. I have a great relationship with my parents! It's a long story.
But I'll keep it short.

Steph and I met March 1st of this year and pretty much fell in love immediately. As time progressed the almost Evolutionary progression culminated in a rather impulsive act. It simply became the right thing to do. We probably would have had a small service if I didn't live 650 miles away and the planning would be hell. Then again I'm 35 and she's, um, close to my age and fact is we didn't want to make a big deal out of the ceremony. We simply wanted it to happen.

That said...

We'll have a Reception in November where everyone can dress up and take photos.

PS~ It also runs in my family; No harm.

24. You didn't honeymoon at Kennywood Park, did you?
Honest, my best friend at the time gave me two minutes' notice that my services as best man were needed (no they didn't HAVE TO GET MARRIED!).

He had to have his wife home by ten pm. They didn't tell their parents for a week.

He yelled at me for not telling them I was giving them an extra 10 minutes to consummate.
