I can't believe the price of milk and butter!

I went to the store today, and was suprised at how much the price of milk and butter have gone up. I paid $3.59 for a gallon of store brand milk, and $3.89 for store brand butter.

3. I was talking to the manager of the local store here...

last week, and he said that butter has risen, on average, $2 per pound. He said he doesn't see this going down anytime soon either. :shrug: The price of milk has remained constant here, however, at $3.75/gallon.

Thankfully I don't use butter.

7. Much of the "blame" seems to rest

on the Atkins crowd. From what I understand, the diet requires eating more meat, eggs, and dairy in place of fruits, veggies, and grains, and given the number of people who seem to be on the diet, Im sure I dont need to go into supply/demand.

Milk's always been expensive here. Perhaps it's the short growing season (fodder is more expensive? Colorado) . We found that it's cheaper and better (organic milk, in fact) to get it delivered.

Is that an option in your area?

And that's just at Wegmans grocery store.

It's much cheaper from a public market or directly from a farm.

for non-perishables, I stock up when they have a sale and use sparingly.

I've $100 worth of hamburger helper I ultimately paid $48 for. That'll last a few months.

They had a sale on frozen veggies, 40% off - only have a 2 week supply, but every penny helps.

and when that Hamburger helper runs out, I can eat ground turkey and vegetables plain and reduce my sodium intake at the same time.

$6.50 for 4 pounds of butter (I freeze it), $2.30 for a gallon of milk, $1.40 for a quart of half&half, $1.55 for 18 eggs.

I don't know how Costco does it, but they do.

The convenience stores I see still have the local dairy milk at $2/gal in Seattle suburbs. Stay away from megamilk dairies.

over here at Wegman's in Rochester. And it's not store brand either, its from the Byrne Dairy or Upstate Farms. Looks like you got ripped off pretty bad unless inflation in Atlanta has gotten out of control!

I hate butter so I don't know how much it costs.

That's what I tell people that don't have a Wegmans in their town. People in Rochester are spoiled rotten.

25. I solved the problem, I think

Our house consumes 1% milk so I started buying 2% milk and dilute it fifty percent with water, cutting our milk bill in half. My nine-year-old says it tastes like crap.;)
