I just spent my rent money on a $300 car

My rent money for August, mind you, not Sept. But my car died, which resulted in my losing my job as I live in a small town with no public transportation to speak of. So it was either buy the car or stay unemployed. Either way, as far as rent goes, I'm screwed at the moment.

There now, I've leveled the playing field for all of us po' folk around here. Everyone feel better? Let's not begrudge those DUer's who are better of than we are. Odds are they at least come by their wealth honestly through hard work and determination, rather than stealing it through shady dealings and closed door backroom meetings. Life's not fair. We all should have grasped that by now.

and were just as poor as you when they were young! (I don't know why I'm assuming you're young, except you have a sort of young, breezy writing style). What kind of car can you get for $300 BTW? You can't even get a parking space for that in California.

2. We still have our $500.00 Toyota Wagon

That's all a car dealer offered my friend for it when she bought her truck, so I said..Hell I'll give you $500 for it..

That Toyota wagon has been used by all in our family at various times, and every time I take it anywhere, someone wants to buy it from me :)

There is something to be said for "disposable cars"..

It only costs $40 a year to register .. it costs 22.00 a month for FULL coverage insurance from state farm.. it's too ugly to be a target for vandals..It's great for grocery shopping..

3. It's an '85 Dodge Lancer

(Lancer...? I think that's it...) Anyway, the engine sounds dead good, but OH MY, it needs some serious help looks-wise. :D I don't much care at the moment, I'm just glad that I have something to get me to my job interview this afternoon. ;)

4. Nondescript cars are best.

A neighbor of mine bought his dream car, some kind of fancy Mecedes convertible, and after a while all he did was complain about it being a target. As long as it gets you there and the parts are cheap. Good luck on your job interview.

for the good wishes. There aren't many good jobs in this area at the mo', and this is one of the few. (In fairness, I guess that's true for everywhere right now, unfortunately. :() Rest assured I'll be putting up a big ol' vanity post requiring the throwing of rose-petals at my feet if I land it!! :D

Life is only a lottery ticket win away ... I bite my tongue wanting to shout out ... I have needed $xx,xxx worth of dental work done for too long now (OK, the first digit is a 3) ... barely have a pot to pee in ... no dental insurance ... no prescription policy ... on disability for 6 years (that'll start a downward spiral, especially when ya have to seek legal help vs. the corporate health gods to guarantee one's ERISA rights) ... under 65 which puts me in some black hole ineligible for Medi-gap policies ... DO know MANY others are in similar dire straits ... but, think it's just peachy keen that fellow Americans have excess living expenses ... wish it was me ... there have been good times ... now, it seems I'm always visiting those disciples ...
