Getting Florida Plates
I called the DMV in Florida and they told me they only take cash to get tags in Florida. Is this true? Why is Florida such a pain? And the lady said that at the DMV place I can only get tags and that I have to go to another office to get my DC license converted to Florida?

1. Not true...
You can write a check for tags here.

The other part is true, though. Tags in one place and driver's license in another.

2. We send checks for ours every year.
Could it be because you just moved here? That does not make sense.

3. it is because Florida is so transient
if you think getting plates is a pain, wait until you try to get a phone or see a doctor.

5. Yea, Florida is ass-backwards
If you're in South Florida, they may not even take a local check, Carlos. The two places I use to go would only take hard cash - one in Hialeah, and the other near American High School just outside Miami Lakes,

I was surprised when I moved to Florida from Michigan and found that the tags are not issued in state offices. Now up in NY - things make sense again!

Have you found a place yet? Good luck to you. There's much I miss, but am happier being someplace else. (I do miss Publix, LOL)

15. Here's a list of offices and phone numbers
just choose your county, the county's tax collector's offices are further down the page.

Just so you are aware, the tax collector's offices, at least, in Miami-Dade county are not necessarily in official buildings. The one's in my old neighborhood were housed in check cashing stores!

Nice of them to jack up their rates over the summer time. I love how there's no competition for them. American as apple pie.

they do take checks for your drivers liscense here in daytona. you have to go to a county office to get tags, and there might be a difference there, but volusia county takes checks as well.

13. Hey, is your new Element a stick or automatic?
Because I noticed that the shifter seems to be mounted pretty far forward. Does it make shifting more difficult from laid back positions? I'm thinking of replacing my 14 year old civic.

14. in FL you go to the County Tax Collectors office to get tags
you get you tags or have them renewed by paying the tax on your vehicle.

the DMV is only for drivers licenses.
