any dream analysts on DU?
Lately I've been having this recurruing dream, in which I suddenly "remember" that I have a pet (usually a dog), after not having fed it in a week or so; I have to rush to feed it before it starves to death.

My assumption is that the dream is a variation on the "show up for your finals without having attended class all semester" dream, i.e., the result of feeling generally unprepared for things. Anyone here with any experience in analysis, who might confirm this, or enlighten me as to the specific significance of pet care?

1. The dog represents a part of you that needs to be fed
something in you is empty. Or not. :)

2. ....
The dog is your wife, who you forgot was locked in the basement when you went to get the crowbar to pry her out. Go get the crowbar and get crackin'.

in all seriousness, I don't have a wife, so I doubt that's it.

8. What do pets (dogs)
represent to you?

What's the first thing that flashes into your mind when you think of a pet?

12. Not much, I guess
I never had a pet as a child or as an adult. My younger sister had a dog that got run over in front of our house, and my parents currently have an old, old dog. I did mock him when I was visiting them over the summer; they completely baby him, and I was commenting that he's practically at death's door and yet has never so much as been left alone in the house overnight.

I don't know if any of that is relevant; in any case, that's the sum total of my experience/association with dogs.

13. Then what does
the word or the concept of a pet or of a dog mean to you?

And here's a little boost of a clue: The subconscious mind relies heavily on puns and similar images.

Your subconscious doesn't pull stuff out of a hat. If it didn't mean something to you, it wouldn't be coming back repeatedly in dreams.

7. you know, it's funny
I graduated 13 years ago, and still have that dream periodically. Every time, it seems so plausible, that I wake up thinking, "What class did I skip? Did I really graduate?" And I really didn;t skip that many classes, I swear!

15. I'll play
Just pullin' this outta my nevermind, but I just translated it to it's most basic parts.

I don't think the dog is significant. The dream is telling you something in your life is being neglected, and you wait till the last minute to take care of it. Maybe yourself? I dunno.
