Rolling Stones appreciation post.......
I've always been somewhat tentative about the Stones. At 34 years old I was too young to be there for their prime, and the inherent cheesiness of the middle aged Stones from 1980 to present day is horrifying to say the least. Plus, being a punk I was automatically oppossed to most classic rock until my mid-late 20's when I stopped being so dogmatic about music. And until recently I had been able to enjoy most of the "hits" albeit from a safe distance.

Recently I went back and brought the cd's of some of their prime material. That being Exile on Main Street, Sticky Fingers, Beggars Banquet and Some Girls. These have been rotating non-stop in my listening cycle for about a month or so now.

When these guys were on they were definitely on. In "the day" they personified rock and roll. It's a shame they had to become so pathetic.

1. I've seen them twice
about 25 years apart. In either case the stage show was terrific! They were the kings for a long time. Plus I think they really captured the spirit of rocknroll with the underplayed song "twenty flight rock"- 2 and 1/2 minutes of hot music!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to hear that you can appreciate them. All music is to be listened to and thought about. The marketers like to categorize music and sell it to a certain demographic. What crap that is! Music is like food. Don't eat the same things all the time.

2. You should have Let It Bleed too
If not for the abscence of Let It Bleed, you'd have all the best Stones albums.

I love the Stones, and I'm 23, so I can divorce their silliness now from the music they made before I was even born. I think with people like The Stones, the Beatles, Dylan, and Chuck Berry, you have to divorce the people from the music they made. I mean, Chuck Berry's a peeping tom pervert, but he's still the godfather of rock n roll.

Exile is STILL the best rock album ever made, btw.
