That's right, folks, it's the Robert Fripp / John Wetton / Bill Bruford (and occasionally Jaime Muir and David Cross) edition of King effing Crimson.
...a band that was clearly too good to last too long, and they didn't. The "Providence" set from the "Great Deceiver" box set isn't just a great concert from this edition of the band...it's one of the most in-your-face live shows you'll ever hear. It's pure adrenaline and attitude up the wazoo. Forget the "prog pop" that Wetton would later peddle with Asia...this band, especially on the "Red" album, was power trio heaven. These are the three "core" studio albums, but any of Fripp's "vault" releases are essential as well. Fripp reportedly was not happy with the posthumous "USA" live set...that's one of the reasons he released "Great Deceiver," so people would stop asking for it...but it eventually got the "deluxe reissue" CD treatment as well.
