Egads, today was hell on Earth, but I'm feeling good right now. The funny thing is, I haven't craved a cigarette since the first morning (Saturday). My personality, on the other hand, has been completely Jekyll and Hyde. Ugh...It's ok though, at least my lungs are clear for all of the crying and yelling I've been doing today.

I'm going shopping tomorrow for books. That will cheer me. Thanks for all your support folks, I appreciate it. :grouphug:

Think of it this way, the only way to PERMANENTLY get rid of the cravings is to tough them out. If you give in to a craving, you start the whole craving cycle all over again.

I quit after smoking for over 40 years. If I can do it, so can you.

I have tried multiple times to quit. I found, more than that I couldn't stand to live without a smoke, that I was an intolerable jerk whenever stressed. Then...
I find ferociously working a piece of Big Red can help. Good Luck!

What things are working the best for you?? Have you been visiting any of the websites suggested?? Have you taken up sniffing glue to relieve stress?? :) From what I have read, the worst of the symptoms happen at 72 hours, so it will be all down hill from there. Keep it up you will be so much better off...Kevin.

I like checking my lil stat sheet and reading the forums with people who are feeling exactly the same way as I am has been really helpful. Lots of Cinnamon Altoids and Trident Freshmint gum. Food, food and more food. :P

sniffing glue, but hey, each their own. The other day when you first posted about trying to quit, I suggested a website www.whyquit.org if you haven't checked it out, I would still suggest it. Different people get motivation from different places, and when I tried to quit (not successfully though) I found that site to be very helpful. If you are doing the food thing. You might try carrot slices or whatever they are called, spears maybe. That way your skin will turn orange, and it might be a shade healthier than bon bons. Great job with it though...Kevin.

I hadn't heard about it before. If anything, they should have more stories and photos showing the terrible ravages of cancer caused by smoking or even (as in the case of the 19 year old) smokeless tobacco.

Dying from cancer isn't glamorous and pretty. It's ugly and painful.

Oh, and then there's the terrible teeth many smokers have. Even if they are absolutely scrupulous about brushing and going to the dentist, their teeth are usually worse off.

It sounds like you're making it, so you probably don't need this tidbit, but Zyban helped me quite a bit. Considerably lessened the urge - ultimately I had to give up the zyban because the nightmares woke me in the night with screaming-bloody-murder fits of terror.

But by then, I had the smoking licked. I'd rather have a few weeks of nightmares rather than die of lung cancer in 20 years.

It's the "killer ap" of the pharmacutical world.

On it now - 4 weeks SMOKE FREE - and no cravings, no thoughts about smoking, nothing. I didn't even particularly WANT to quit. And I've been smoking more than half my life.

I don't get the nightmares thing though - I haven't had any. I DID have one dream about smoking however. Cracked me up.

Shouldn't be that much residual nicotine left in you. Now you gotta work on the socio-psycho aspects of the addiction, the "Trigger Events" I think they call them.

After tomorrow, your addiction will only be psychological. Granted, that IS a tough one to overcome, but the actual physical cravings will be gone. Your only desire will be that of your brain remembering the calming effects, etc etc.

26. Good for you!

It's been almost a year for me. Just never even pick up that first one again. I went 8 years at one point (and over a year at another), then I picked up this little 3-5 cigs a day habit. It was just enough to make me have chronic respiratory illnesses. Smoking sucks, but that nicotine's a bitch to kick. (I'm better now. I didn't even get a cold this past Winter.)
