Philly to Begin Gay Media Campaign to Boost Tourism
June 1, 2004
Gfn.com News

A tourism campaign designed to bring more gay and multicultural travelers to Philadelphia is set to begin this month. With a budget of $1.7 million, it is the largest, most comprehensive campaign of its kind ever for a U.S. city, according to city tourism officials.

The Commercial Closet Association reports no U.S. city, resort or international destination has ever used television advertising to invite gay travelers to visit.

1. First they have to get rid of that stupid 1913 law
For tourism to have an affect. Why should I visit, If I can't get married!

2. Isn't it amazing?
People will fall all over themselves to get the gay dollar, but give gay people the same rights as they have? NO WAY! Maybe their slogan should be "give us your money then, GET OUT!"

5. Let's be fair about this instead of getting pissed off
Philly is a very liberal city. I could be completely mistaken, but I haven't heard a peep about Philly residents being against gay rights. Call a spade, a spade.

3. Good for Philly. I hope Chicago follows suit.
Chicago should do this as well, not only because the Gay Games will be here in 2006.

7. Chicago is going to have to step up to the plate
and really support Gay Games 2006, after the rift with the games committee over Montreal. The split is going to hurt both cities venues, but I think Montreal will get ALL the internationals. Why go through fingerprinting and visas (where gays in fundy theocratic countries have to state the where they are going and why).
I believe they will find Canada a much more welcoming place.

8. I think Chicago is going to be the loser in this one.
Chicago will have to make the best of it, but you're right. I think the city will be behind the Games...they SHOULD generate some tourist income. I do suspect most people will go to Montreal, instead.
