Listening to "Cry Me A River" on Sirius (courtesy of Dish network). This woman is single-handedly redefining the standards for me, and I'm a rocker. Anyone else just love her?

Saw her on "Sessions at West 54th" a couple of years ago. It's great that the success of Nora Jones allowed her to get more mainstream exposure.

The Look of Love is great.

And, as a rocker, feel comforted she married Elvis Costello last year. Some of his work is on her new album, The Girl in the Next Room.

I had the good fortune to see her in a very small venue in Chicago a few years back.

Nobody should be allowed to look that good and be that talented dammit!

4. I've found her great for quite some time

I first saw her on one of the late night shows several years ago, and ran out and picked up her album.

Every time I hear her, it seems like her voice belongs in a dimly-lit jazz club of the 1950's or 1960's with the smoke so thick that you could cut it with a knife. Her voice is so smoky and sultry, it just feels like it was transported here from a bygone era.

She's a terrific musician.

5. I LOVE HER

a friend of mine exposed me to her about a year and a half ago and now I have all of her CDs.. I love her style and voice.

7. The only CD I have is Live In Paris

and it gets spun frequently. In truth I grew up a rocker and have steadily moved towards jazz in the last dozen years or so. There is just too much good music out there to listen to. I have the time but not the money, alas. I HAD heard about the Krall/Costello nuptials and wish them both a long and happy relationship. They are both quite lucky.

8. Love her! That voice! I am going

right now and put on one of her CDs. She is simply great!

9. She's a great jazz pianist, as well as singer.

I have all her albums and moved heaven and earth to get two tickets to hear her live in Pittsburgh. Vocally, she carries on in the tradition of Peggy Lee and Julie London - only I think she's better.

I also recommend cds of Kevin Mahogany, whom she performed with at the Newport Jazz Festival some years back.

10. First time I ever saw or heard her

was, believe it or not, on Lambchop. Remember Sheri Lewis & Lambchop? This had to be at least eight years ago, and Diane Krall was her guest. She was just getting started, and she was awesome.

11. she received an honourary doctorate at my school last year

Unfortunately, I didn't get to be at the ceremony because it was the fall convocation, and I got my grad degree in the spring. (So I don't get to talk about "being onstage with Diana Krall", alas!) Husband-to-be Elvis Costello was in the crowd, beaming happily.

She chose the occasion to play her new song "Departure Bay" for the audience. A very genuine person and exactly the right choice for a convocation guest, because she was so appreciative and enthusiastic -- her late mother went to the University of Victoria as a mature student and was much admired on campus.

Friends around town have seen her at the local hardware store, served her in restaurants, etc., and apparently she is still a Vancouver Island person even with international acclaim.
