1. That sucks
Sorry to hear that. Hope it won't be too painful. I had my 2 top ones taken out about 5 years ago, and unfortunately I went to a SADIST dentist who refused to give me anything for the pain afterwards. He told me "Just take Advil... I don't like giving young guys your age anything stronger 'cause you all get addicted to them". Bastard.. lol.

2. I'll tell you something.
It sucks. It hurts like hell. The holes left behind trap food and are sore for weeks.

But even so, it's worth it.

3. Are they putting you under for it?
I was most of the way under, but my poor husband, who had his out in Germany, was awake!! Get some tea bags, too. They are good for slowing any bleeding... soak them in cool water and put them between your sore gums!

It sucks, but you heal pretty quickly!

4. You getting them done all at once?
I did, and I was awake for the whole procedure (I get too nauseous with a general for me to want to do it unless I absolutely have to). The (hygenist? receptionist?) person who made the appointment kept insisting I either needed to be asleep, or I needed to only have one side of my mouth done at a time (a few weeks apart). As though I had time to take off of work, twice.

It went without any problems. I'm good with dental work. Good luck to you!

6. Get the good stuff
It's gonna hurt.

I told the DDS to juice me up, and when he objected I said "who's paying the money, here?"

8. sodium pentathol an option?
My first one came in early and impacted and abcessed...went to have it pulled (novacain only) and the crown shattered when they tried to pull it. So they had to dig out the root and that was about as much pain as I've felt!

Had the remaining ones pulled a year later. Different dentist (ya you bet!, I got an IV of pentathol and immediately went under, woke up with a mouth full of bloody cotton and that was it! If they still offer this, and you want to avoid pain, I'd say go that route, maybe...

good luck!

10. All 4 out on the same day?
I had mine surgically removed on the same day. I was doped up, but not out. I had the surgery done on Friday afternoon and was back at school on Monday. Stock up on gauze and pain pills.

11. After you're numbed up with xylocaine
or whatever, the operation itself should be absolutely painless.
Honest.
The worst part for me was the sounds made in my mouth during the procedure. I have an overactive imagination when it comes to dental work. I wish I had worn earphones with a Walkman, if that had been possible. You might ask.

Post op, I just felt like I had been socked in the jaw for a day or so. Not sharp pain, just a dull muscular ache.
It won't be as bad as you think.

12. I Know I Hated It
It wasn't the cutting out of the impacted teeth, it was that they had to dislocate my jaw to get far enough into my mouth to do the cutting.

I hope they can do your work with the unhinging of the jaw part. If not for that, i think i would have been uncomfortable for 24 hours. Instead i was in actual pain for 3 days.

Fingers crossed that yours is an easier procedure than mine was.
The Professor

13. I only have 3 wisdom teeth, and they may only take 2
One has a huge cavity and the other is partly impacted. The third is apparently not doing me any harm so maybe they can just leave that one.

I will be warming up to this with a couple of cavity-filling sessions that should get me good and used to novocaine and drilling. I would rather do it under a local than a general, and unless the pain is friggin' excruciating I probably will try to get by on ibuprofen.

Let this be a lesson to you, kids: see your dentist twice a year! I let my visit go for...oh...about 12 years, and now look what happens!

Sigh,

The Plaid Adder

Maybe, I shouldn't scare you with my story. My mother always scared me with her story and it did really turn out to be that bad. She also said that her procedure was worse than giving birth.
