1. I'm very fortunate to be employed.

I'm looking for alternative employment, but until then, I'm happy to be working. At least my hours and pay are pretty good. I really have no complaints other than my job not challenging me the way I'd like. Plus, the job has evolved from what I was originally hired for. Oh well, like I said, I'm really pretty fortunate.

5. I like my job

I have a dual monitor computer, a lovely private office and nice co-workers.

But it's just so slow right now, I wish I'd get another project to work on, then I would love my job because I enjoy the work.

3. I like what I do and I like my company...

...many on here would be offended by that fact, especially since I work for a very, very, large company. But they treat their employees well and provide me with both a nice living and a more than excellent work/life balance. I work in a wonderful environment, get paid more than a fair wage, and still have time to be a father, a husband, and maintain my hobbies and passions to the best of my ability.

But I like them - they even give domestic partnership benefits which I think is great. Our state does not recognize DPs but at least our company is thinking the right way!

4. I started this job 10 years ago

I was hired on as a production person, but in a year I was promoted to the office. A year after that I was once again promoted, this time to Electrical Engineer. I never figured I would ever put Engineer on a resume mainly because I never did a day in college. So, I can't complain.

9. I love my job.

I don't particularly love my salary, though. (Sorry to complain!) I enjoy doing something that I know will help to make a difference out there... and my project team members are great. I'm pretty lucky, IMO.

10. I really enjoy my job as a substitute teacher, most of the time.

There are days, though, that can be really tough. I can generally tell within a half hour or so whether or not a teacher (or team) is really effective or not. I love subbing in the classes were there is a good mix of dicipline and interesting teaching techniques. Those classes can be a real joy.

The pay sucks, though. I work nearly as many (and sometimes more) days as the contract teacher and sometimes work long term gigs where I am as responsible for lesson plans, grades, and everything else that comes with being a regular contract teacher, but I make less than one-third of what a contract teacher makes... And they are not paid generously.

12. I am lucky

I work from home for a small software company, so I don't have anyone breathing over my shoulder. Our customer base is off during the summer, so we can work very flexible hours in the summer without having to worry much about tech support.

I was laid off two weeks before 9/11 and was lucky to find this job one week before 9/11. I also take a former co-worker's philosophy to heart. He made himself so invaluable to the company he could not possibly be let go. I am in the same position now. Everything goes through me. Marketing, database work, new development, customizations, support...

I will never go corporate again unless I absolutely have to. My wife and I own our own businesses on the side. Hers is helping to pay the bills now. At the rate she is going, she will have nearly $50 K a year in sales based on working that business less than 1/4 time. Even after taxes, the extra income helps alot.

I am still getting mine started, but it will eventually pay off. We have the products and the customers. We just need to hustle more on the marketing.

I have a great job. My wife has a great job. Her mother watches the kids every day.

We are truly blessed.

14. My job is sooooooooooo not me!

But I'm pretty good at it and I get along with everyone usually. I'm sort of trapped by a narrow skill set and a nice salary. When I consider changing fields, I find everything that interests me has pretty poor pay--well, maybe not poor, but not as good as what I'm making now. And I have an uncanny knack of making financial obligations expand to take up all available income, so that no matter what I make I'm living paycheck to paycheck.

15. I loathed my job.

Everyday I had to go pushed me one step closer to throwing myself in front of a train (or developing an ulcer).

But I quit and now I work for myself doing contracting work.
All is well.

16. I work midnights in a sweat shop making circuit boards for

missiles. Not exactly where I wanted to end up in life. Mrs bearfan was unemployed for about a year and had to take a shitty job as midnights cashier at Walmart for 8.00 an hour. She got one of her old jobs back now and we are starting to get back up on our feet. I get paid well so I put up with it for now.

21. I dislike my work environment INTENSELY........

I suppose I should be saying I appreciate the salary and benefits, and I DO, it's just that the work is pretty dull most of the time, the atmosphere where I work is pretty depressing. Let's just say that morale is SO low.

I've had some bad (and unnecessary) experiences happen to me at work from some very malicious and incompetent persons. VERY bad experiences, you could call it bullying.

When I'm at work I take on a lot of work and am more than willing to cover others and help them out, but the feeling is mutual. There are days (such as today) where I'm really feeling very stressed out and achy and need to really rest. I have some work concerns on my mind right now. :(

I may joke around about my job and know that I will have to change jobs to make myself happy, but right now I need the money and security. I'm a basically good, smart, and mindful person at work and people like me aren't appreciated or rewarded at all, we are attacked and lied to.

20. Happy to be working

The pay is good, the benefits are good -- but I hate dealing with state bureaucracy. Plus I am not working in my field and I miss it. I'm keeping my eyes open for something new.

23. I wish I could find something else

I've been job hunting for what seems like forever. Meanwhile, I am in a job that is soooooo not a fit with my skill set. The work is boring, most of the people I work for are pushy and ungrateful, and when it's deadline time, the pressure and stress are through the roof.

The worst: I don't use my best skills, and I live in constant fear of losing them.

On the positive side, it's near where I live, I have flextime, and the pay and benefits are decent.

24. It sucks. SUCKS.

My boss is an arrogant condescending ass. He tells me this morning that he wants me to check my email at night since there's a 'communication gap' between 5pm and 9am or so.:mad: Like I get paid enough for THAT.

Plus the work is boring (it's a science research position) and I don't think they do good quality science here.

As soon as I get something better I am OUTTA HERE. GONE.

I have some leads I am chasing. I was a finalist for a killer job a 15 minute commute from home that would have been challenging and interesting with great people. Oh well. On to the next resume.

26. I have mixed feelings about it

Since it is somewhat small, I feel that I should be able to change things, but then I get frustrated because I know that things won't change. Some of those things bother me a lot. Any given day is not horrible. It is more a cumulative thing. I think getting a different job would be good for me. Unfortunately, I've put my job search on hold because I hold health insurance through work and my husband has an onjury that might need surgery in the near future.

from a job I hated and for now Unemployment is a wonderful experience.
I had planned for this, so the math works out OK. And for now I am reveling in having time to consider what I prefer to do with my skills and aptitude.

My greatest fear is going back to work too soon.

30. The pay is low and it's no-status position

I'm a retail monkey in the cosmetcs department of a giant drugstore chain. Disadvantages are low pay, no status (I get condescended to on a daily basis) and having to deal with some real assholes who think they should get things for free. The advantages are it's a job in this economy, I have a few benefits, the work environment is good (everyone has a mocking enjoyment of each other's company), and best of all I occasionally get to do something good, like telling a recently-diagnosed cancer patient that there's life after radiation, or giving a guy five bucks for a camera so he can get pictures of his graddaughter in the snow.

I'd rather be working in psychology, but until I get the degree, this'll do.
