My daughter is getting rid of all her dolls and barbies

we are having a yard sale tomorrow, and she has decided she is too old for her toys.

she brought up MOST of all her toys to sell.

She is only 12

At age 12, my friends and I were playing "Barbie Hookers" in the basement away from mothers, who were happy we still played with dolls. Barbie made lotsa $$$$$.

I resisted buying Barbies for my girls. I did not like what they represented as female role models.

Someone else bought the damn things for my kids, so the spending and buying of more clothes, cars, etc. began.

My oldest quit them at age ten.

My youngest used them more creatively. She turned them into archaeologists, riding My Little Ponies up the mountain to explore Macchu Picchu. I swear, her whole playroom was turned into a model of Macchu Picchu!

That is where she is now -- traveling through Bolivia and Peru.

My older girl is gay, and when she went East for grad school, we gave her a present: Dyke Barbie. We had lots of fun making it, and she laughed really hard.

(I had checked it out with some out with some of my other Lesbian friends first, and they thought it was funny, so we went ahead).

All the Barbie crap is still here, packed away. The Barbie car is probably valuable by now. But, I figure if they want that stuff someday, it is here for them.
