1. No----flush it!
it's a waste of money and a dangerous drug that you don't need.

The pharmaceuticals will push anything and this one has been pushed!

8. how is it dangerous?
both my doc and the pharmacy told me there were almost no side effects (one out of about 30 may get dry mouth)

25. I tried it about 4 years ago and it made me very anxious---
and I couldn't sleep. I just don't trust most drugs but you have done your research and your doctor and pharmacist have approved,so go for it.

I wish you well.

2. I know of one person who took it.
It worked for her, but she eventually went back to smoking. :-(

3. Only if you want it too....
Here's another piece of advice: If you can get your doc to write a prescription for Wellbutrin SR, the insurance company will usually pick up the tab.

It's the EXACT SAME MEDICATION in the same strength only packaged differently than Zyban.

It's what I used to quit my pack a day habit.

10. Sweet....that's pretty rare for an insurance company.
You might have some interesting dreams for the first week or so, but otherwise I didn't notice any ill effects.

7. Good luck.
Some say it helps a lot. If not try Commit. I have heard it is good too. Hell of a hard thing to do, it took me years to quit. Drink lots of water and breathe deeply a lot.

13. I think it helps with the compulsion to light up all the time....
...at least it did for me.

It may also be a marketing gimmick to prevent you from going postal on everyone around you.

9. Here's The Deal...
It helps you to get beyond the inital mood swings and cravings (both physical and psychological) at the beginning... but it's not a magic pill. You still have to work at it.

Best of luck to you!!! It's definitely worthwhile! I'm coming up on 2 years... best thing I ever did!

....It took about three months before it became no cigarettes at all.

Two and a half years smoke free now.

14. I used Zyban to quit 2 months ago
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 03:34 PM by Langis
and I'm still not smoking

Just take the zyban for 2 weeks, then quit and finnish off the zyban. The hardest part for me was the first 2 days, after that it was a breeze. Good luck, it's great being a nonsmoker! :bounce:

17. My biggest piece of advice on stopping smoking...
....once you have quit, NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER even pick up another cigarette and say "I'll just have one".

You'll be back to a pack a day in less than a week.

Just keep reminding yourself once you quit how hard it was to quit and convince yourself it's not worth it to go through that again.

Good luck. Make sure you have a full day of stuff to do so that you aren't sitting around watching the clock and counting the hours. You can do it.

23. Be sure to read the warning labels.
IIRC, they had some weird warnings like:

If you are a heavy drinker, and take Zyban, you shouldn't suddenly reduce your alcohol intake or you risk having a seizure.

But then they also say alcohol should be minimized or avoided.

26. Good luck on the quit. I'm on my 13th month now.
Be sure to check out quitnet.com. They've got some good tips on quitting, etc, and also a forum. It really helped me to be able to talk to people who were going through the same crap I was:). Non-smokers can be supportive, but fellow quitters can identify more.

28. Good luck!
I'm an occasional smoker...I smoke when I drink and when I work my waitressing job. But then I go a few days without one at all. For example, I went out to the bars on Saturday, smoked 1 cigarette Sunday, smoked 2 cigarettes Monday, drank on Wednesday and smoked about 7 cigarettes and haven't had one since. Tonight I will smoke more as I will be going out.

It's difficult to be that kind of smoker because I don't do it enough to have a "problem" but at the same time I dont have any desire to quit all together.

I used to be an almost a pack a day smoker then quit cold turkey for 2 years. For the past 2 years I have prescribed to myu above smoking method. When I get stressed out, I tend to smoke more, though.

Best of luck to you!!!!!!!!!

And inclination. At least it was that way for me. I would usually run out of physical energy before losing...um...attention....

31. xanax is the same thing too I think
I tried hypnotism (didn't work). It just felt hokey to me and I couldn't stop giggling through 2 sessions. I didn't go back for the third. I was thinking maybe trying acupuncture, the nurses at the hospital recommended one to me in our area. Also, there's some kind of procedure in Canada (we live close to the border)thats guaranteed to work, I think it involves zapping you with some kind of electrodes. I get images in my head about (thank you prison torture scandal very much) standing on milk crates with a hood over my head.

But then there's emotional conflict that I suffer trying to quit. I try to rationalize and justify smoking. I think sometimes I keep smoking now just to piss non smokers off. I tell myself no one gets out alive and we're all gonna die of something. Most importantly, I ask myself, self, how do I give up my best friend? They're here for me when I stressed, bored, lonely. If I get angry they calm me down. They're not like people, they're always there for me and they won't let me down. They're upfront and honest, They tell me right on the package that they'll make me sick and I'll die prematurely. But still, I love them.

They're about to go up 75 cents a pack here soon and I don't know if that is going to motivate me enough to try again.
