28. Fosters used to be a lot better than it is now
I used to drink it quite a bit in the late 80's - early 90's, when you used to only be able to get it in the 25 oz cans (at least around here).

But the quality has really gone down hill. Must be the distributor.

32. It's a distribution and production issue...

The current version of Fosters that one buys in North America is made in Canada. The recipe is somewhat different, and the water is of course different, which is a lot of it. I don't know exactly when this started happening, but at some point Fosters stopped being imported from Australia.

Long-time beer drinkers I know have all told me the same thing you just said. Not having had the pre-Canada version, I can't personally say.

Fosters still markets the 25oz "oil cans" in some places. But, what's in those cans is no different than what's in the the other sizes.

22. its sooo bitter! ick
our local pub used to have some particularly good beers on tap, which was especially nice since out here in the country, most places only have Blub and others of that ilk. But, sadly, when the owner of that pub made his liberal views and peace activism known, alot of folks in town stopped patronizing his place. So they've had to cut costs. :( I guess Yuengling must be cheap, cuz they have it now.

46. I absolutely agree
I went to grad school in PA and everyone drinks it up there, which was understandable b/c it's cheap ($1.50 pitchers) and we were poor. But now in DC, it's considered a "microbrew" and priced as such. yuck. people buy it thinking it's better to bring yeungling instead of bud to a party. but yeungling guarantees a hangover (even just one and who could drink more than one). yuck. yuck. yuck.

What an insult to my intelligence, that snotty jerk going on and on. Yeah, go ahead and drink your Canadian, jackass. I'd take a nice American microbrew over that mass-production horse pee any day. 27. They've got cool marketing toys though...

I ran a booze shack (liquor store, which is the only place one can get "real" beer in Oklahoma) for several years, and I loved the marketing things this company put out. I still have a lot of it.

It says something about a beer when the company puts its name on a shot glass. It's not a good something either.

37. Probably so...
Pardon me...I know this will be off-topic, but I can't help myself.

I'm just amused at some of the marketing schemes beer and liquor companies use. They might have some purpose in a place like NO, but in a liquor store in Oklahoma the shot glasses made no sense.

Most gave away glasses or some novelty that fit with the product, like gourmet chocolates with spumante or crystal champagne flutes adorned with hand-painted flowers in a box set of Perrier-Jouet Champagne de Fleur.

But there were odd ones. Windsor Canadian had one where they gave away a hockey puck with each purchase of a 1.75L bottle. In Oklahoma? Ancient Age bourbon gave away a BBQ sauce; this one I guess did make sense, and it was actually pretty good. It was just a bit weird, I thought.

My favorite was one from Gallo wine. Their company reps gave us some inflatable rafts to be given away with purchases of one of their then new flavors of Peter Vella box wines. The signs that went with it had an attractive couple lounging in the pool on their rafts. There was a warning label attached to the rafts that said, "Not to be used as a flotation device."

38. For awhile, Jaegermeister gave away glass tubes containing 2 extra -
- extra strength Tylenols.

There was a bar in New Orleans that used to hand out specially-printed stick-on tags at the door. The idea was that you could write your name, address, SS#, blood type, and who to notify - for when you passed out. Now that's a useful give-away.

29. As others have said...
Mass produced American beers are almost all crap: Anheuser-Busch, Coors, Miller, etc. If forced, which is often since I live in a state where its sometimes difficult to find decent beers on tap, I can tolerate MGD, but only tolerate, and only out of the tap. I include in this so-called micro-brews that aren't really micro-brews. Certain people like Sam Adams for some ungodly reason. It's also crap, imo.

Cue the Pythons: How is American beer like making love in a canoe? It's fucking close to water.

Worst beer I have ever had was Red, White, and Blue. It tastes like Black Label with a touch of formaldehyde for flavor. A navy buddy bought it for me as a joke. He paid something like $4 for a case of the stuff.

Do you mean Mickey's? It was packaged in a wide-mouth bottle.

I remember Red, White, and Blue. PBR isn't bad for a cheap beer. Schlitz is just battery acid. I mean, really, you'll get acid reflux from drinking that stuff.

I have two unopened cans of Billary Beer for what it's worth. No Billy Beer though.

What I miss: Ballantine India Pale Ale. National Premium. They may still be around, but I don't seem them. Henry Weinhard's Red. Can't get it here in the East.

Holy cow, it is the worst. It is undrinkable. I dare anyone, anyone to buy a six pack. If you can drink the entire six pack in two hours, I will buy the damn pack. It is awful. It is so bad...How bad is it...when I was in high school, under the drinking age. Someone bought us some beer, and that is what they got. We ended up throwing it out. Even as desperate as we were as kids to get drunk, we just couldn't couldn't do it. Oh, the humanity!!!...Kevin.
