Should I get an Art Nouveau armband tattoo at age 41?
Here's a border by Alphonse Mucha:

I'm thinking this would make a terrific armband. What do you all think?

1. What's age got to do with it?
I say go ahead and get one.

2. It is beautiful but it looks religious with all the lilies
If that's what you want, go for it. Also consider getting the colors more vibrant, as they will fade in time due to exposure if you're getting the tattoo on your arm.

12. I love Mucha too
and have imitated his style frequently enough in my own work, but I think that border is far too busy to be read properly as a tattoo. IMHO, you should check out the definitive book on Mucha by his son Jiri Mucha for some alternatives. If you are set on something VERY close to that border, please PM me. I might be able to make some adjustments to it for you (I'm a professional Illustrator-20 years).

4. It is lovely.
I am 50 and have been considering a tattoo. Go for it, why not? Age is nothing.

6. Tattoos are butt-ugly
IMO. I don't care what the pattern is.

10. I'm with you
Way too external and confusingly rebellious toward the inner self. Like a facade, diversion or fair warning of future trouble.

Except for WWII veterans.

7. That might be a prickly design to keep looking sharp.
Show it to a tattoo artist and see what she/he thinks.

As for the general idea - by all means, go for it. If you get an armband, get it all the way around (no weenie half-ways).

8. Ouch
Not to be snippy, but why not do a quilt instead?

There are as many pin pricks, much less pain and you can hand it down to the next in line.

13. That is way cool

Everyone seems to have a pseudo tribal or celtic ring. That is cool and unique, IMO. As someone else said, you may ask you tattooist the prospect for touching it up later. That's going to be expensive, too.

On edit:

I have always loved art nouveau architecture.
