4. Ronald Reagan's death has brought all the FReekers out

of the closet in DU. Whew! I was on here earlier,left and came back and thought I had accidentally clicked on the FR link. I've never seen so many posters pissing and moaning about the treatment of Reagan.Looks like everyone here is supposed to walk in lockstep and agree to worship him...it's just exactly like the repukes think. It's one thing to pay your respects and give the family your sympathy...but when you are vilified for speaking up about his lousy job as President and not agreeing with his policies,it's a little too much to take. ...FREEPER is a pretty broad brush that's wielded all too freely around here lately. Let's all remember what the term means: a member of an uber conservative news forum, presumably in good standing and more likely than not a bona fide repiglican. More generally, a clueless low life bottom feeder blogging to save America from the liberal scourge, and most notably, DEMON-RATS.

I've been called a freeper for not supporting Kerry's candidacy (directly and obliquely), and now this poster suggests that anyone who advocates letting the Reagans have their mourning with a bit of dignity is also a freeper. Thankfully, I've posted saying I'll happily piss on Reagan's grave, so I guess that makes me a sorta kinda freeper-- PC on Raygun but not willing to toe the party line on Kerry.

Isn't this a bit silly? Some sophomoric freepers do occasionally try to disrupt discussions on DU-- they generally get tombstoned pretty quickly. The notion that there are deep cover freepers hangin' with us liberals, talkin' the talk, hiding their nefarious nature begs the question: why? Why would anyone be motivated to mount such a subterfuge, and why would DU'ers care if they did?

Disrupters get tomb stoned. Among the rest of us there is a wide spectrum of political opinion, ranging from agreement with many moderately conservative ideas to outa sight far left. Let's ease up on the "freeper" label. At the very least it's unseemly to call one another names or to simply imply that "unnamed individuals" are stealth freepers.

One thing that I've been interested in after reading through some of the Ronald Reagan threads is how a few times a "Let's see if the conservatives do the same thing at the Reagan memorial that they criticized democrats for at the Wellstone memorial" sentiment has been expressed.

I guess my questions (to the DU faithful) would be:
(a) What do you think happened at the Wellstone memorial?
(b) In what way do you think the conservatives mischaracterized it?, and
(c) Do you think the same atmosphere will be present at the Reagan memorial as the Wellstone memorial?

They took an event that was a memorial meant to honor the guy...and threw out claims of politicizing his death for honoring him for exactly what he brought forth...the event was staged for his admirers..those that wished to honor what he stood for in his tragic untimely death and they USED this not only to spit all over his memory but used THEIR coverage of it to wage a political war.

What they did was disgusting, classless and shitty...and yes...I will bet my hat, my ass and my overcoat that they will go MUCH farther in their attempts to use Reagan's death as a paid political commercial for Bush...they did it with Sonny Bono's funeral.

No I do not. The Reagan memorial will be a very smoothly orchestrated memorial, organized and organized and organized by the highest operatives of the RNC. All speeches will be well-vetted beforehand, and Ed Gillespie will have direct control of the microphone "kill" switch.

was portrayed as a partisan political event and brayed as such by alot of media outlets, when the fact is it was a long respectful memorial and a couple of moments got taken out of context. One speaker got carried away and the whole event was portrayed as a Dem. photo-op/campaign event, which it was not. Thats the truth of the matter

Reagans funeral will be the same thing, but no media outlets will portray it as a GOP campaign event. The truth again
