Americans have way too much junk
I am one of those minimalist kind of people...less is better for me. Less to dust, less to worry about and less stuff to have to take care of and maintain.

Now that is not to say that I don't partake of life's luxuries and in fact if anything I have a garden that takes a lot of time but over the past eight years I now have a collection of plants I share with everyone as I cut and divide....however that said...

I went to visit a neighbor today who can't fit any cars into her TWO car garage because it is full of stuff she isn't using. Mattresses, chairs, loads of clothes, and junk and more junk...and she isn't the only one. I have other friends who have moved into larger homes because the amount of crap they had accumulated had given them the feeling that they needed more room...when in actuality they could have saved themselves the cash and tossed 80% of their junk.

2. wow...that sounds like a lot of records and CDs
but in your case it is probably your hobby...whereas I think a lot of people hold on to stuff they don't even care about for some reason or another...either they think they will use it one day or they are too greedy to give it away...

I have a neighbor that keeps bringing out the same stuff at garage sales each year and no one buys the stuff and she just keeps bringing it back into the house...kind of odd...why not give it to Goodwill???

4. Since I began preparing for my upcoming move...
...I've tossed out the equivalent of perhaps five or six shopping carts full of stuff. And I ain't done yet!

6. I am a music freak also.....
Have well over a thousand cd's as well as numerous lp's. They are a bitch to move. I don't buy much "stuff" other than music.

3. George Carlin calls it "Stuff"
He discusses exactly what you were talking about: finding bigger and bigger houses to keep all their "Stuff". I haven't heard that material in a long time.

7. Americans are taught to buy this crap and not to be around people
That's why bullies and other nasty wrongdoers get their way while the victims struggle through life because what had happened to them.
