There was a lot of traffic on the site yesterday and probably today too. The Admins are just trying to conserve bandwidth.

Its just a vain waste of bandwidth, most particularly with all the graphics that increase page download times and scrolling.

Or at least allow a personal option to suppress them (assuming there isnt one I've missed).
