It's counterproductive for your own best interests.

It's unlikely they will believe you and change their life or at least management practices over it.

It's posssible that you will get a reputation that might follow you, particularly if the industry is close-knit or the geographical area small.

While companies are loath to give negative recommendations of ex-employees for fear of getting sued, there's no guarantee, particularly if it depends on the attitude of one person.

It's a momentary satisfaction with possible long-term negative consequences.

4. Interesting you should ask this question...

I'm nearing the end of a legal process with my former employer. I'm losing. It seems that resigning over harassment over others that upper management tried to hide is not a valid reason for a resignation in the government's eyes. It's even in the ruling I received the other day. "Claimant had very good reason for his resignation, but this does not constitute just cause as defined by section..." blah, blah, blah.

I'm paying for it too. I may have to leave the state to get a job. It seems as though prospective employers are being given an "under the table" negative assessment even though my employee file holds nothing but stellar reviews.

Just to make me feel better, I've recently completed a letter in which I am detailing every grievance I had. I'm mailing it tomorrow with CC's to the lawyers, the EEOC, etc. I'm really piling on to my own misery. :-)

5. Dude - I've left a path of destruction behind me

My crowning moment - which didn't amount to much.... was when I got word the President of a shoe store chain I worked for wanted to fire me. It was because he made a suprise inspection to my store and I showed him the books without "Seeing proper ID"
Really... the guy was wearing an Armani Suit and driving a mercedes...yeah I'm sure he shops at a discount shoe store in a dying mall in the suburbs. Plus I recognized him.

Anyway when I heard of this I picked up the phone, and called head office, my boss said "what are you doing?"
I said "I'm gonna tell this piece of shit what I think of him." then asked the secreatary for his line...my boss ran over and hung up the phone...he was worrried he'd get fired too./

I never did get canned though.
