I watched "The Times of Harvey Milk" this past weekend
What an interesting movie, which had won best Documentary Oscar in 1984. I bumped into the movie after flipping through the channels peeved over the fact that it was "Ronald Reagan 24 hours a day"

I knew who Harvey Milk was, his importance in life and the fact that he was murdered. But I really didn't know much about the guy beyond that. I thought it was a great documentary and I learned so much more about what an incredible guy Harvey Milk was and what a great injustice it was that Dan White only served 5 years for the murder of Milk and SF Mayor Mascone. (btw, White came to the building with a gun & 10 rounds of ammo plus he snuck through a window so he didn't have to go through the metal detector when entering the building. And they charged White with manslaughter).

I believe it was Sundance that aired this documentary and hopefuly it'll be on again soon!!

1. Execution of Justice and The Laramie Project
There was a stage play created from much of the Harvey Milk footage which was quite powerful. I mention this because I just saw The Laramie Project and the structures are very similar. I even thought some of the interval music was the same as that used in "Times of..."

Anway, another strong effort of stagecraft melding with the documentary format to create a powerful work of art.

2. Notwithstanding the obvious tragedy, the "Twinkie Defense" will always
stick out in my mind as the most novel and lame attempt to acquit an accused murderer. (Eating junk food may lead to severe depression which may lead to severe antisocial behavior)

3. You know, I have a junk food addiction...
...I'm wonder what I could get away with using the "Twinkie Defense"

That was another thing I learned about from watching that documentary - Twinkie defense

The world became a sadder place because of the loss of Harvey Milk
