SOMEONE!!! Teach me the imperfect tense!
Oh sweet Jesus, I have a 12% French test in an hour . . . .

But why bother studying when I can be paying a call to all my friends here? I mean, seriously.

Oh Goddess I'm so screwed.

1. Been there, done that . . . .
Feels pretty bad. Good Luck, but remember, unless someone is sick and/or dieing, it isn't REALLY important.

2. I like the pluperfect imperfect.
Or was it the other way around?
Or vice versa?

3. Just remember
The letter "i". Almost every imperfect verb has the letter "i".
For example, "Voyer" - to see.

Present: Je vois un chat tous les jours. (I see a cat every day)
Past Imperfect: Je voyais un chat tous les jours (I saw {used to see} a cat every day)

Because you didn't see that cat just one time, use the imperfect. Whereever you can use the words "used to", that's like the French imperfect past.

Good to see you back on DU! You've been gone for a while.

How's life at the university, other than French tests?

ON EDIT: The previous poster is correct. The imperfect is also used in situations where you could say, "I was doing A when B happened."

7. Or, to put it another way
"Perfect" or "parfait" (en francais) means "finished" or "completed."

If an action is done/completed in the time frame spoken of, it's "perfect."

If it's ongoing or repetitive, it's imperfect/imparfait
