1. Where it belongs????
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 06:36 PM by Tripper11
You CAN'T be serious?? The oldest pro sports trophy in North America....

The Stanley Cup , notably the oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in North America, was donated in 1892 by Sir Frederick Arthur, Lord Stanley of Preston and son of the Earl of Derby. He purchased the trophy for 10 Guineas ($50.00 at that time) to be presented to "the championship hockey club of the Dominion of Canada." The first team ever awarded the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association in 1893.

Since 1910, when the National Hockey Association took possession of the Stanley Cup, the trophy has been symbolic of professional hockey supremacy. Beginning in 1926, only NHL teams have competed for this prized trophy.

Keep it in Canada, it's true home strong and free!!!!

7. In America? That possibility is long gone.
Flori-duh seceded on 12/12/00 and is now officially a rogue state.

Thus, this horror show could be considered state-sponsored terrorism. Jeb!'s blood-red hands will now tarnish the once-sacred Cup. This is an outrage.

First the "CFEE", as you name it, gags at home, so that a bunch of ignorant yahoos can again applaud when the Zamboni comes out at first intermission, thinking this means the start of the monster truck rally. :-) Now comes word that Canada ("Cana-duh"?) is on the verge of returning the hated Tories to power. A dark night has now fallen over all North America.

Excuse me while I :puke: :puke: :puke:

13. Here's why I really want the Lightning to lose:
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 07:06 PM by northwest
1) The team/fans copied the Winnipeg White-Out. As a hardcore Jets fan, I'm deeply offended by that. At least the Jets fans broke 110 decibels at the old Winnipeg Arena, and didn't sit around with their hands up their rectums. And they didn't need to be handed out white shirts at the gate. FANS BROUGHT THEIR OWN FUCKING SHIRTS TO THE GAME.

2) Not only that, but they refused to even acknowledge the team/city that started the tradition of the White-Out. The White-Out is a Winnipeg tradition, and must not be fucked around with.

That's really the main reason.

48. the Calgary fans booed...
the National Anthem. That is classless. Fans cheering for their team or country is worlds better than booing someone else. And memo to Calgary, change your team's damn nickname. The nickname Flames belongs to Atlanta. Cow pies might work. Keeping the Atlanta team's name just reminds everyone they stole the team from another city...Kevin.

Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 09:53 PM by drumwolf
It would've been nice to see the Cup go back to Canada, but at least Dave Andreychuk (40 years old, 22 seasons in NHL, no Stanley Cup until now) will finally have his Ray Bourque moment.

This was probably his last chance since there is likely to be a lock out next year. However if there is a lock out Tampa could become the longest reigning Stanley Cup champs in history... er, sort of.

Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 02:03 PM by Merrick
Teams like them are killing the sport. Interest is at an all time low, ratings have been awful for these playoffs. Why? Too many teams from small market towns with no hockey tradition full of tourist fans that foster malaise in anyone not from there such as San Jose and Tampa Bay. Whose gonna be in the finals next year, Atlanta and Nashville? What was the NHL thinking by expanding in such places? Well, combined with the imminent contract impasse, its their funeral.
