I can't articulate it, but I understand it. I did the same when Pat Nixon laid in repose at the Nixon Library many moons ago. It was a moving experience.

5. that's part of it -- and for me, part of it was

that I owe my political awareness to Pat Nixon. The sight of her standing up w/ Nixon at that farewell for WH staff is the second thing* I remember about any politics or politicians. I didn't really understand what I was watching, but I saw this woman who was so unlike my mother, looking strong.


*(The first was Nixon's resignation speech, and, until I was older & understood the act & the impact, the thing that made the biggest impression on me about that was that his jacket was nearly soaked through with sweat.)

9. I for one don't believe the body is in the box

I don't think that they are going to take any chances at all with the body. I don't think that it is in the box. I would be surprised if the body is added at any time prior to the actual lowering of the casket. There is a chance that it might be added after all has happened or sometime on Friday right before the private funeral.
