Potential tattoo design
Yesterday I checked out six books on floral designs and motifs from the library, with the thought of finding one suitable as a memorial to departed loved ones.

I particularly like the floral designs of Augustus Pugin, a 19th century English architect and designer. I am considering his stylized holly design. Holly symbolizes, amongst other things, immortality, and the design extends in four directions, which to me represents the four people I have in mind, with four relationships to me: father, brother, lover and friend.

Pugin's holly design, center of the plate:

1. Very nice... and I'm impressed that you are researching before ...
making the plunge. I, on the other hand... on a particularly drunken dare, chose one while sitting in the tattoo parlor. So, I woke up the next morning and found a very pretty jaguar face with blue eyes on my shoulder blade. Damn painful experience if you ask me... wouldn't do it again. But at least it turned out well. :)

2. Oh, I've been thinking about a tat' for a very long time
but I'm having a midlife crisis and have decided to really get one this time.

5. Yep... I had my midlife crisis at 36. I don't regret the tattoo, since...
it can only be seen when I'm naked or in something strapless.

13. I'm Wanting One... But My Partner Really Dislikes Them
So... I guess I'll just have to get an airbrushed inked-on temporary tattoo.

All the fun, none of the pain... and no worries about buyer's remourse (or pissing off one's S.O.)

42. Well... Sometimes I Just Say The Word "Lesbian" For No Apparent Reason...
other than the fact that I like how it sounds. It sounds better when I add a little Southern drawl to it... kinda like Blanche Devereaux (Golden Girls) would say it. Lezz-bian.

3. Beautiful!
We very sure that you find an artist that can do fine-line work and who can make straight lines! Some of the tattoo artists who do wonderful and colorful freehand designs have a hard time with geometric designs!

And that design is a lot of fine-line work.

4. Very nice
If you were going to do color, ask about the red. If I remember correctly red isn't really a great color to have on a tattoo.
It took me a while to figure out what I would like on mine before I got any of them put on. It's a good way to go.

41. Some people are allergic to red
And red ink used to be mercuric oxide. T'aint anymore, though.

Ask for a patch test.

6. It took me 8 years
to decide what I wanted for mine. (I've got a tiger's head on my shoulder, in reference to my college mascot.) 7 years later, I'm still thrilled with it.

The moral of the story? Be sure of what you want, and you will not be disappointed. And remember, the pain is only temporary. (And on mine, it wasn't that bad at all.)

40. I'm pushing 8 years making my decision too ...
I think I've finally decided what I want my tatoo to be of, now I just have to design it or get someone to design it for me.

For me, piercings don't involve this much though (but they can EASILY be removed) ... but I'm not getting anything permanent on my body unless I'm 100% sure I'm going to still be okay with it when I'm 80.

:hi:

But it is very nice.

I'd like to get a tat for a milestone BD coming up in a few years.

I was thinking of getting the "Uffington Horse" on my calf.

22. Speaking only for myself... mine was OUCH!!!!!!
Mainly because the entire tattoo is black, with only a little color in the eyes. (The artist told me that the outlines are the most painful, and mine was essentially done entirely with that outline technique.) And each freaking hair on the jaguar's face is intricately drawn.

23. Don't be such a baby!
If it takes more than an hour, the endorphins kick in and it's a breeze! Plus, it all depends on where she's getting it and how big it will be.

I like it. I think it suits her.

And I went to Tatu Tattoo on North Avenue in Wicker Park, where all the cool hipsters go. ;-) I can't remember the guy's name who did my last one. The girl who did my first one isn't there anymore. Mr. Susang also had his done there. I think the guy who did his was named Dylan.
