My first vote was for Walter Mondale. So no dark confessions here!

Carter was my first vote for president followed by Carter again, Mondale, Dukakis, Clintonx2, and Gore.

I was traveling in 1980 and didn't have an absentee ballot. If I voted at all in 1984, it would have been for Reagan. I was very happy he got a second term.

I didn't undergo political conversion until the early 90's.

I was a registered Republican back then. When I was "poor", I was a Repub. Now that I'm doing OK, I'm a Democrat.

I voted for John Anderson, the Nader/Perot factor of his time. Not as compelling a figure as Nader and not as much a wild card as Perot. But a good and decent man from a time when it was easier for Republicans to be such creatures.

I disliked his policies then, especially the way he handled the Free Speech movement. He was a corporate toady, even then.

My first real vote for Pres was Gore, but I do somewhat remember Jesse Jackson's speech at the '84 Convention, it was my first "political memory", just happened that the 'rents had it on the tube.

That was my last vote for a Republican, though. I woke up soon after.

...but never in a real election. (My other mock election votes were for Dukakis and Clinton, and then a real vote for Clinton.)

I grew out of it, I guess. (My grandmother also talked some sense into me.)
