How's your handwriting?

Not that mine was ever that great (a little more legible than a doctor's), but I just noticed how horrible it has become. I do everything on the computer anymore and I communicate with co-workers through e-mail.

I was just trying to write a sticky note and attach it to a document for one of my staff and it took me a couple of tries before it didn't make me look like a fifth-grader.

So, how's your handwriting?
Has it become worse?

3. Awful!

I learned how to type when I was 12 and typed all my high school papers. That was so I would get decent grades because everyone knows if you have awful handwriting, you can't get good grades on papers.

It's not juvenile writing -- just lousy.

I've been typing faster than I've been writing since I was in second grade. I don't handwrite anything if I can avoid it.

My handwriting was terrible until I took up calligraphy.

but then I used to be a teacher and had to write a lot. Now, with being an office manager, I'm usually typing.

10. One of my teacher's said I was the worst

I don't know how the discussion came up in our small class, but he said that if there was an awarded for the worst writer in the senior class, I would get the female award. I have to write legibly on my offcial records. I have to think about it though.

11. my handwriting has never been good

but since i have carpel tunnel syndrome it has gotten even worse. especially since i wear a splint 24 hours a day. i don't have time for the surgery right now.

I studied Art in college, and as much as I disliked the technical drawing classes, they did teach me to have better control of a writing instrument.

But my signature is still a piece of work.

14. Much worse

I rarely ever have to write anymore. All my bills are paid online. I don't write checks for anything anymore. I keep up with family and friends via email and phone. About the only time I ever have to write anymore are notes and lists for myself, and greetings/birthday cards. Every time, I wince at how horrible my handwriting has become. The fact that my hands are often numb doesn't help.

and it doesnt help tp be left handed, I smear the ink or lead up real good, that is assuming I dont break the pen(cil), Im very heavy handed.

16. Artsy.

It's one of the things through my whole life that people have found really memorable about me.

In college, I studied interior design for awhile, and they teach you to write like an architect, so I picked up a lot of that style.

For awhile I switched to advertising art. I had one instructor who wanted us to develop a hand for typefaces, so we had to trace about a bazillion typefaces with black razor point pen. I'm really good at making impromptu signs (for yard sales, my office, etc)

Now my handwriting has metamorphosized into soemthing completely different.

My script is much messier when I'm writing fast, but is still interesting. My printing is very architectural.

Always has been, though, so I can't blame it on anything. I only print; I can NOT write in cursive (as soon as it stopped counting for grades in school, I stopped using it except for my signature).

I also can barely draw straight line with a ruler (several of my siblings are very artistic, but I definitely am NOT).


***edited to add: I write in all capital letters, too!! Of course, I learned from my Dad, who works all day with architects and engineers.

when I take any kind of notes at work I have to type them up immediately because the next day I cannot read them.

21. Not good

When I was in the second grade the school supplied paper and pencils to my parents for me to practice my handwriting. I was the only kid in the class that had to do that every night.
In fifth grade the teacher came back from lunch break with a little bag and put it on my desk. Inside were these little things to put on my pencils to better grasp the pencil. What does that tell you about my handwriting?
I am 40 now and it has never improved.

Mine is awful. Strangely enough 2 of 5 siblings are completely identical. Genetics?
Sadly,as vision gets worse,I find myself writing from "memory".

27. I believe the term "chicken scratch" is usually used to describe mine :)

For a practical joke at work the other day that required male-like writing, I was recruited because my co-workers determined that I write more like a guy than most guys. :)

30. Nice to see that I'm not alone

The teachers said it was because I hold my writing instrument incorrectly. I developed a callus on my middle finder. When I used to write for hours, it would swell and get painfully tender.

When I switched to typewriters, I found that I would skip edits because it was too much bother. Thank goodness for computers! :-)

31. It depends

When I'm not thinking about it, it's quite lousy. I've been known in my various classes this past year as "smart", so therefore, I have been asked on a number of occasions if my notes could be borrowed. However, on more than one of those occasions, they have quickly returned to me the notes because they are allegedly illegible (I suppose the mass quantities of doodles don't help either). But when making a conscious effort, it can be rather nice handwriting, but rarely do I have any need to make that type of conscious effort.

35. I was a "language junkie" so people were not able to use my notes

whichever language had the shortest abbreviation for a word was used.. My notes were a combination of English/spanish/russian..

My friend and I used to pass notes in russian..It would make the teachers so mad..they would sometimes save the notes and make the russian teacher translate for them.. :)

Never great, but it used to be at least neat. In the 80s, when we were computerized, I spent a lot of time entering data through page after page of fields that I had to hit the enter key over and over to get to; we didn't know it could be a problem. Like carpal tunnel and arthritis. I can do about one sentence neatly these days, and then it starts to hurt.

I had teachers in high school, who asked if I had a computer or typewriter at home, so I could type my homework, they couldn't read my hand writing!!!
