Anyone have info/suggestions about portable CD players?
I want to buy one for a friend, but I know nothing about them. I do know I need to get one that can be used in a car, without relying on headphones. When I did a search on portable CD players, there wasn't any information about sound without headphones.

Can anyone here give me some pointers? You all are so much better at electronics and computers and the like than I am.

thanks

3. Apple's mp3 player............

it'll run ya about $300 worth of friendly love. Most portable CD players nowdays come with a litle thing that looks like a cassette with a cord. The cord plugs into the player, and the cassette goes into the car player. A good one should run you no more than $50 - $60. I have to concede that the mp3 player is a better investment, but don't know if you're close enough to this person to drop 2 to 3 hundred bucks.

5. Most CD players don't come with car kits anymore.
But you can buy one seperately.

9. Usually between 20 and 30 dollars
I guess they don't sell them much anymore because CD players are standard in most cars now.

10. Can you say GOUGE?!?!
With the cost of the CD player factored in, you're already running near $100. The iPod doesn't sound too unreasonable anymore!

4. if your friend has a cd/rw
A cd burner, in other words, then get him a nice cd player that will play cdr/cdrw mp3s.

That way, he can burn mp3s to a CD and fit 7+ hours music on one CD. I've consolidated my daughter's cd collection to two CDs for easy transport.

7. Can you clarify about the audio?
I appreciate the suggestion but this guy only is tech-equipped to put in a CD someone gives him or he buys and push "play." I just want to make sure that portable CDs have decent audio w/o headphones...so he can play it in his car as he drives many hours a week.

thanks from a CD dummy!

11. if he's listening in his car
without headphones, he'll need to either hook it to his car audio, or get a boombox that has speakers.

Any CD player should do fine with a hook up into the car audio. If you're going boombox, that's a whole different thing.

I'll be back in an hour or so, and check in.
