So freecreditreport.com isn't ACTUALLY free. They make you give credit card information and charge you $10/month in the future unless you tell them a month from now you don't want to continue their service. Anyone know an actual place I can ACTUALLY get a free credit report?

I just made sure to cancel before 30 days was up. That was 2 years ago and I never got charged for anything. Since then, I've gone to equifax to buy one for $9 a few times.

2. by law, the credit bureaus have to provide you with one for free if you |
|
have been turned doen for credit within the past 30 days. As far as I know, that is the only way to get one free.

Like Catch22Dem said, it's totally free IF you cancel the membership within 30 days. It's comprehensive and gives you the opportunity to identify any errors in your credit record. Financial purists would advise you to obtain reports from each of the big three agencies - especially if you are getting ready to take out a mortgage. It's a good way to avoid any 'surprises' near closing time.

4. Check the rules for your state----Massachusetts residents |
|
are entitled to 1 free credit report a year from each of the three major credit companies.
