Does anyone here having problems with their DVDs not loading
into the player?

This problem started about a week ago.

I bought the collector's edition of "Pulp Fiction" and it wouldn't load in my player. I tested other movies and they loaded no problem.

I returned Pulp Fiction, but now some of my movies are doing the same thing.

And they loaded normally before with no problems.

1. Put them in parallel to the ground
Forcing them in the other way does not work, lemme tell ya.

Other than that it is probably a conspiracy by PNAC and Skull&Bones to pre-emptively not let anyone watch Farenheit 9/11 or the Hunting of the President.

2. DVD could be dirty

Or the player might be. Maxell makes a good DVD player cleaning disc.

3. Sounds like it may be time to clean the laser lens
I had the same problem a few years ago, and I have a smoker friend who has to clean her DVD lens every six months.

The home "head cleaner" disks sometimes work, but the best way is to open up the case and use isopropyl directly on the lens with a clean non-abrasive soft pad. If you don't know how to do this yourself you should definitely take it in and have it cleaned professionaly. It only takes two minutes and it makes a world of difference.

If looking at the insides of machines doesn't make you squenmish, it's a very easy process to learn how to do yourself. I do it regularly for a lot of friends and relatives.

5. I had that trouble with a couple DVDs
they wouldn't load even when I cleaned them. I bought this thing called skipdoctor on amazon for $25 & it worked great. DVDs are working again, and the freezes & skips have also stopped. :)

8. It's a disc resurfacing kit...
Sometimes discs that get used a lot start to get worn & the performance is affected. I had a Chris Botti DVD that I played a lot & eventually it wouldn't even boot. I got it to work with this thing.

You spray the disc then run it through the resurfacer, then buff it. Almost like waxing your car.

Here is the web site - best price I found was thru amazon...

12. The technical reason it won't work
There are different types of DVDs. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and next gen. Some DVD players will only play one type. This was done to help decrease pirating and increase DVD/DVD player sales.

Sucks, huh?

Anyway, what you need to do, is buy a next gen DVD player. Basicaly anything brand new should do it... or a computer DVD player.

13. you don't understand
they were working fine until a few days ago.

After that Pulp Fiction movie wouldn't work.

But tonight I used the disk cleaner and tested it.

It's fine now.

I was suspicious about that Pulp Fiction movie tho -- it was supposed to be brand new, but it appeared to be bound in skrink-wrap.

I try to buy my movies either brand new, or previously viewed from Blockbuster or Hollywood Video.
