Need suggestions for songs to put on a CD for my wedding

reception. It's going to be an outdoor wedding, dressy casual. I want to mix oldies stuff with some good rock (nothing that would offend the 'parents' who are in their late 70's!), some Sinatra for the parents, and some of my own preferences (country).

Any suggestions? Especially 60's-70's stuff? Motown?

1. "At Last" --Etta James

I walked down the aisle to it, and it still gives me happy chills. Since he was Canadian, we played the original Guess Who "American Woman" when he was retrieving my garter. It was fun.

Here's a few of our favorites:

"Have a Little Faith in Me" - John Hiatt
ANY Frank Sinatra Greatest Hits interspersed with the other stuff
One or 2 of the Ella Fitzgerald "Songbook" CDs, like Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, etc.
"Let's Stay Together" Al Green
"As" Stevie Wonder

All very tasteful.

4. We did that when we got married in our backyard.

Cassettes, not CDs.

Our processional was "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green.
Our recessional was "Big Big Love" by k.d. lang.

Our friends threw us a "music shower", where everyone brought a musical selection to put on tape. We ended up with about 4-5 hours of music to play. Everything from Mozart to Duke Ellington to Willie Nelson to Sonny & Cher to Don Ho. Very cool. I recommend it.

add on edit: Can't forget "I Knew The Bride When She Used To Rock And Roll". The Dave Edmunds version, not the Nick Lowe - which features Huey Lewis and the News.

2. Oh, by Dave Matthews Band

One of my very favorites. I think it would be a great song for the groom to have played for his dance with his bride. But it is not a real slow, sappy song. And given the current events in the world today, the lyrics are appropriate. Give it a listen if you are not familiar with it. It is on the Some Devil CD.

16. I don't know your age group but

my son turned me on to Dave Matthews in the mid-90s and it is my favorite band (and I am not young). They have a great sound and Dave writes some haunting lyrics that can really deliver a message if you pay attention to them. Another one I think is perfect for a wedding is Let It Grow by Eric Clapton.

Yep. But I think you should be daring and original - make people go "huh?"

As long as you DON'T PLAY THE GODAWFUL "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton, which is NOT really a song about domestic bliss. He wrote it because he was pissed about waiting for her to get ready for a party, and he is being exasperated and sarcastic. The weepy guitar is there for cover.

Plus, he gets sloshed and she has to help him get out of the car. Any woman married to an alcoholic can attest that is NOT an ideal marriage.

10. My father and I danced to "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole and

Natalie Cole. It was perfect. :)

Our bride and groom dance song was "Ribbon In The Sky" by Stevie Wonder. I've always loved that song and swore that if I'd ever get married, it would be played somewhere during the reception.

My father-in-law loves Big Band music, so we danced to "Moonlight Serenade" by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He absolutely adored it. :)
