Do you like any new rock bands or are you primarily into the older stuff?

3. Well...

...I like many things frome the last 40 years. I was listening to Sevendust last night. I have a couple of their albums. I also have albums by Stained, Disturbed, Tool and A Perfect Circle as well. I also have some Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Alice In Chains, Audioslave etc.


As for mellower stuff, I have some Dave Matthews, Barenaked Ladies, Collective Soul, Blues Traveller etc.

4. I have a few of those in my library as well

I bought the latest Stained disc for one song and found a few others I like on there as well. Same with Disturbed, but I only like two songs on that disc. Seems like the rest is just filler. I have Aenema by Tool and I like every song on that one especially "Hooker With a Penis." I have both A Perfect Circle discs. I like both of them, but I like their first one better. I saw them in concert when they were promoting their first disc and they put on an excellent show. That was the last concert I went to and I guess that was at least a couple of years ago.

As for the rest of your list, I've heard songs by all of them that I like, just not well enough to go out and buy their cds.

5. That first A Perfect Circle disc is interesting.

I also have some newer Progressive Rock, mainly Dream Theater. You really should check Sevendust out. Especially their latest album Seasons. It is great, none of it is filler at least as far as I am concerned. I highly recommend it. Buy it now.

Yeah, I've heard a few by them on the radio and they rock pretty hard. Maybe I'll give Seasons a whirl.

I didn't know Dream Theater was still around. I used to have an album by them that I bought back in the early 90s. That was some great dope smoking music. They had an eleven minute song on that album, I think it was called "Metropolis." I was out driving the back roads with a friend of mine one time just cruising for the hell of it. Anyway we were stoned (I don't recomend driving while doing that, we were just dumb kids) and I popped in that tune and cranked it up and it seemed like time just stood still and the only thing in the world was that song. We saw eternity in eleven minutes. It was either really good weed or a really good tune. I think it was a little bit of both.

11. Dream Theater is still around.

They even put out an album late last year. I think I know the song you are talking about. Metropolis Part I. It is on the album "Images & Words."

Get that Sevendust album and tell me what you think. FYI, it is mellower than their earlier stuff but it speaks to me. Especially through these tough times. :hi:

6. Should I go to the concert?

I never was allowed to rock concerts when Dave was part of the band, and now when I can do whatever I want, he's not there. Should I still go to the San Jose show?

I would like to see them now but I don't have money. Do what you want. Though the concensus is that Dave is better than Sammy.

I never was a Sammy fan; way more the opposite in fact. And you know, I didn't think to check the ticket price until now. $65 or $95?! nevermind....

He is better than Gary Cherone and most of his material with VH was quite alright but does not compare to Dave's stuff with VH. That and I gat a little turned off because Sammy is a Republican. He even donated to Bush in 2003. Check the www.newsmeat.com website.


FYI, if you want some good Sammy material, get the first album by a band called Montrose. The album is their Self titled debut. Entitled Montrose, by the band Montrose. It is absolutely great. Check it out.

Damn that sounds really familiar. I may have bought and traded the album a long time ago... I'll check it out.

I knew that Sammy was a repub, but even before then, I just never liked the way he sings. For me, there is no contest between him and Dave in terms of musicianship. Plus, Sammy always looks like he's selling you something.

As for the Montrose album, I would not trade it for anything. If you were ever to own one album that involved Sammy, that is the one. It is all killer, no filler.

The new songs are unlistenable, Eddie can't play anymore and Hagar gave $2000 to the Bush campaign. And Fear Channel is promoting the tour.

There is no Van Halen without David Lee Roth, and now the imitation is even worse than before.

But yeah, the Montrose albums (first two) rocked.

Not that I want to get into the ticket price rant, but you know, I wouldn't pay $65 to see an orchestra full of musicians, much less a Dave-free Van Halen.
