11. That was a 4.5 have you felt any aftershocks yet?
We had one up here in northern cali about 3 weeks ago, 3.5, didnt feel it. About 6 months ago i went outside to my deck, clear day, no rain no wind and the water in my pool was sloching over the sides, thats the only way i knew we had an earthquake.

13. All seems OK here
Edited on Tue Jun-15-04 05:38 PM by slackmaster
No obvious gas leaks.

120-gallon aqua-terrarium still upright, no sign of leakage.

Cuckoo clock weights swinging.

Cat not very mad.

Lava Lamp didn't fall down.

That was definitely an earthquake. I felt some very sharp movement, strongest in years. Lots of vertical component, then a little horizontal shaking. Everything feels quivery, either aftershocks or psychological effects.

Damn, I hope nobody got hurt. It would really suck to be in the wrong place when one of those hits. I keep a bunch of emergency food, water, etc. on hand in case society is disrupted.

61. Cats are good only for letting you know when to feed them
The strongest reaction to a quake I've ever seen from a feline was during the Landers earthquake in 1992. The family cat was sleeping with me. She got up on my chest and said "MEOW!" as if to tell me to stop shaking the bed.

8. I am in Socal (Los Angeles)
I felt nothing - nada...I never feel them...only once...it was weird. I had just gotten to my car and then I slammed my car door shut and my car shook hard for a second on the very instant the door shut. I was feeling like my trips to the gym were doing something! LOL, but it was just a one second 4.5 quake and the only one I have ever felt since being here in 1996.

Floyd's kid is on MSNBC now, he's not mentioning it. But it was a BIG jolt. I won't be surprised if we get a bigger one later.

My chair moved a few inches. I live next to a highway, so I am sensetive to minor movements. This was HUGE.

45. Twenty seven seconds apart if I'm reading it right
So far it looks legit, and not a computer read error. In all likelyhood, the second one was about to go and the first just set it off...the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.

Didn't they just have another big quake in Mexico recently?

34. Give seismologists some time to sort it out
The data you see at first is generated automatically. Human intervention is required to weed out the noise.

39. I am in South Park
House jolted a couple of inches up, down, and all around but it died down quickly. That's why I say it was close by. With a large, far-away quake the shaking is not so sharp, and the s-waves take longer to arrive.

IIRC, Bodie is home to one NPS ranger in the winter, and a handful in the summer. Everyone else is just daytripping :)

Oh, I should mention that my dad owns about 650 acres near Lee Vining, so I'm pretty familiar with the area. I don't think there's a single economically viable industry in that entire region, and the fact that the entire county has a population of about 1500 people (in nototiously overcrowded California) just about proves that.
