I lost my job today to............
somebody who has more seniority than me. :puke: I have to go back to my old section, which is okay (I guess) except I would have to work with a bloated, overpaid jealous bully. :(

Paranoia? - another nitwit I worked with (and who HATED me, just HATED me!!!) is now working with her bud, the human resources manager. hmmmm. I wonder what they had to do with the new changes that made me have to apply for the job I was working in, but "lost" today. hmmm.

Rant: I hate seniority, it doesn't matter what people can or cannot do, seniority rules out. Oh, and they made it so that persons from other departments with more overall seniority can apply for jobs in our department. I just cannot win. :nuke:

4. I don't like seniority either
fortunately, I don't really have to deal with it except for our vacation schedule. Our company postings say "When candidates are equally qualified, the more senior person will get the job." Candidates in same department for more skilled positions are given clear preference. We have had temps have a hard time getting hired because of seniority because already hired people are given preference. We've had a lot of outside hiring too and not a firm definition of "qualified" too. My first job was at a union plant though and my manager was upset that she could not hire me as a full time, year round employee because of union hiring rules that gave preference to senior employees if they met minimum requirements.

11. i think
seniority ought to be a consideration. It's just paying dues.

As for tenure, I think the best argument for it is to prevent people being fired for their political/academic/social views. However, if one fails to be a good teacher, one should be fired. But barring failure to do well at your job, your views shouldn't be cause for firing.

13. we don't disagree
seniority, if all other considerations are equal, ought to matter. But I, too, have seen too many jerks promoted because of it.

As for me, I screwed my career by simply not caring about being a manager. I did it, I was good at it, but I didn't enjoy it.
