How many tabby owners here have no idea their house smells like cat pee?

1. I don't know but I've been trying to get the cat pee smell out of

the area where my fax machine is, for three years now. Tried everything. Any magic? I can't even stand to hover over the fax for 2 minutes.

5. OxySolution Bev! You can pick it up just about anywhere and it

works like magic with little fuss. It's a spray bottle. You spray it on, wait 5 minutes and then sponge up the area. I can now handle working in my basement office again. And it was getting bad. :hi:

7. Try this stuff called Simple Solution...

You can get it at Petsmart or those types of places. It has special enzyme stuff in it that works better than most cat stuff I've tried. Not completely foolproof, but for the most part it works.

The most important thing is to pull your carpet up in that spot and get it into the pad, not just the carpet. Brush it in really good, and continue to use it in that same spot constantly.

My house gets a good scrubbing out twice a year, with boxes cleaned weekly or semi-weekly, and it's certainly not as bad as raising a stinky baby with diarrhea and having diapers lying around!

Besides, I get to share my life with my best friends, who neither judge me or condemn me for anything I do. Owning animals means making some sacrifices, and if someone doesn't like it, they have the right to turn around and walk out the door and not visit me again. As someone once said, if you're visiting the house, don't bother coming, but if you're visiting me, ignore everything you don't like.

14. WTG! I Agree With This!

I've had cats all my life and never had a problem. Sift the box out three times a day (morning, noon, evening) change the litter weekly for one cat twice weekly for two, etc, and NO PROBLEM.

It amazes me when I see an overflowing cat box in someone's house. Sheesh, I want to ask them, how often do they flush *their* toilet?! When I hear a cat in the box, I reach for the slotted box sifter. Takes all of 15 seconds and saves me (AND the poor cat) the phew!

8. Not a bit.

I have had cats in this house for a total of 13 years, and never a single accident. Not one. I have two boxes for the kids, and we've never had a problem. So I might be part of the problem; this house doesn't smell, and none of my friends has ever said a word.

duplex.wwhen i met the guys from home depot who were delivering a new washer we were all three overwhelmed by the odor when i opened the door. i never dreamed a cat would stink so much. the delivery men chose to install the cord outside in ten degree temps.when i spoke to the tenant about it he said "what smell?" i ended up replacing all the carpet in the place and using bleach on the concrete underneath. it took several treatments with undiluted clorox and all new carpet to remedy the smell. no more pets!

16. cat smells

I had a serious problem with cat pee when my older cat became incontinent. At that time I used Nature's miracle, and often pinesol, which covers up any smell- but leaves a weird smell of its own.
However, now that I have 2 fairly youngish healthy cats, they wouldn't consider going outside the box unless its to play hockey with a hunk of dried pikokla. But there is a male cat named monster who is obsessed with coming over to my house, and he has been spraying- so there is some kind of a residual smell, though not terribly strong. Still I should get some of these products mentioned, and get it under control. Most of the time I am able to keep him out, though he cries forlornly at the window and my cats think I'm being kind of mean to him.

enzyme cleaners, they do help. w/my clouter it's a losing battle, though. mostly rescued ferals, & the males were mostly active long enough to have developed male patterns neutering (or chemicals) won't erase.
