Just watched "Sex In The City" for the first time ever.
And if it's your favorite show, God love you. Enjoy. Like what you like. I'm not flaming it or you. But I have to say - idoan geddit. I have no idea why this show was a hit. Am I the only one?

This particular episode had Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) trip and fall while doing a charity modeling gig. After she got up again, the audience applauded her and encouraged her to finish up. She seemed genuinely stunned that people would root for an underdog, and would encourage the underdog to get up and finish. Isn't that what normal people would do? I couldn't imagine doing anything different.

Just a comment. Flame me if you will.

1. The show is like a serial. I don't know why they are showing..
the reruns out of sequence. You kinda have to watch it in sequence to catch the groove.

I didn't particulary like that fashion show episode. I can see why you're confused about the show's popularity.

2. I think you're watching the Michael Powell PG-12 version of Sex
in the city. I've never watched it myself (What? you want me to pay MORE money??? for only one more channel???),
but I've heard the show had a lot to do with sex, and that one of the characters in particular will probably have to be edited out of the show entirely.

7. Actually they filmed 'sanitized' scenes when they were filming...
...the regular episodes. I guess they knew they were going to be syndicating SATC so they would make both a PG-13 and an R rated version at the same time.

I loved that episode "The Real Me" especially at the end when the women face their biggest fears. But that's just me, I loved that show!!

3. Never liked it much, myself
That whole glib narrated storyline got on my nerves. Bad writing, not nearly as risque as they thought they were.

But I like the cast, so I'm glad they got the work.

4. I've liked Kim C. since "Big Trouble In Little China" but, otherwise, I
can't say I like the show much. I don't know if it's because it's mainly a 'chick'-vs-dude thing or if it's because I'm not really a city person (certainly not an NYC person) or some other reason. Whatever, to me it seems massively overrated. Watched it because it was on where I'm staying (same reason I've seen The Sopranos and Queer As Folk, neither of which exactly has me hooked).

Also, Sarah Jessica Mary Louise Penelope Ann Parker's voice really irritates me, for some reason. I liked LA Story and Honeymoon In Vegas, but she annoys me beyond reasonable bounds in Sex And The City, even when she's not wearing some stupid-looking tutu.

5. I loved this show...
I think it's a big mistake that they're showing it on a station where it has to be majorily censored. The show had a lot of sex in it that was very relavent to the story line. It kind of reminds me when a great book is made into a movie when it really shouldn't have been. I'd suggest renting the dvd's and watching it from the very beginning, in order.

23. That's where I've seen it, on HBO, uncensored
I haven't seen whole seasons, or anything like that, but what I've seen massively underwhelmed me.

But, yeah, they should probably just call the TBS version The City, or maybe Shucks And The City. Then again, I was surprised when I recently watched a movie on TBS (though I try to avoid watching movies that have commercial interruptions, because they're so obnoxious) to find that they left uncensored some language that I didn't know was permissible on US broadcast TV (have heard some of the same on ER, for that matter).

25. "What the hell is Gracie Law doing here?"
I don't even remember Porky's, and even when I last saw it my viewing predated the release of the masterpiece that was and is Big Trouble In Little China.

6. It's a show about women written by gay men.
The "reality" is therefore slightly heightened.

9. It's definite fluff.
I watched it starting in it's second season and it was still hard to figure a few things out. I can't say I loved it, more liked it and found it entertaining. That probably has much to do though with my own personal struggle between my inner Charlotte and my inner Samantha.

12. I have an inner Miranda, an inner Samantha, an inner Charlotte and
an inner Carrie!!

I can relate to all of them. I think my favorite is Miranda though - she has my cynicism and scepticism.

Love the show in a major way.

16. I am quite fond of it, although it's like watching alien life forms
the whole New York-big city-high maintenance-high fashion thing is VERY alien to me, but I still find it frequently funny. I'd never seen it until New Years', when we were bored in our hotel room while we were getting ready to go out, and happened to catch some kind of SITC marathon. I got kind of hooked, just in time for the show to end. I do find it amusing, although I can't exactly empathize with many of the characters' dilemmas.

18. Watching a raqndom show from the middle of the series...
wouldn't make a lot of sense I'm afraid.

I'm a big fan, but only after my daughter loaned me the first several seasons on DVD and told me to watch them. Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it's something I never would have thought to watch myself if someone hadn't pushed it at me.

But I can see how you might not like it. It is kind of chick material.

Maybe I can relate a little too much for my own good. :-)
