SEATTLE (Reuters) - Science fiction fans, known for congregating at conventions, book fairs and on the Internet, now have a place to call home, thanks to the first-ever museum dedicated to the literature and films of science, technology and the unknown.

The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, founded by Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen, will open its doors on Friday in the shadow of Seattle's Space Needle with 13,000 square feet to house numerous artifacts from Allen's collections as well as those donated or loaned to the museum.

On display are Captain Kirk's chair from the "Star Trek" series, the first edition of H.G. Well's "Time Machine" as well as numerous high-tech exhibits designed to draw visitors into the world of space flight, time travel and alien creatures.

"People are going to love it," said Donna Shirley, the museum's director, adding that the museum is expecting to pull in 150,000 to 200,000 visitors a year.
