White House pastry chef retiring at 60 years old

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/us_france_food_bush_chef

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush (news - web sites) enjoys pie a la mode; former president Bill Clinton (news - web sites)'s sweet tooth ran to cherry tarts.

For the past 25 years, it has been White House pastry chef Roland Mesnier's job to tickle the taste buds of his powerful bosses.

But the 60-year-old native of France hangs up his white hat on July 30 and goes on tour to promote his book of the pastry recipes he has used to satisfy the sugar cravings of five presidents and their families.

5. A (gasp) Carter appointee no less
Rosalynn Carter, the wife of former president Jimmy Carter, hired Mesnier in 1979 while he was working at a hotel in Virginia. Mesnier had previously worked in hotels in Bermuda, Germany and Britain after serving his apprenticeship in the eastern French city of Besancon.

8. Ah the sweet sweet retirement plan of upper level govt. employees.
Actualy this is usually a talking point used in RW e-mails but the fact that Senators and Congressmen don't pay Soc.Security tax and have their own SWEET retirement system doesn't add much weight to discussion that effect everyone else.

I would suspect that he has a nice little retirement and will not be eating much of anything from a can. Nothing against him, good for him, but most people can't retire at 60 anymore. Maybe he managed his money really well....
